Hey there girls, We are meeting our mid wife on Thursday - What kind of questions should I ask her? Do they cost?

hey, no most midwives are free. Only private ones cost.

Find out if they are available at the time of your due date and not on holidays or leave.

Yea Kellie is right about that check that they are available first. I went to two but they were both away in August. Ask her anything that springs to mind. I didn't really have too many questions because i had only found out about 2 hours before so i was still taking it in. Just think about things for the next two days and write them down. Ask her things about herself if you don't have any form of phamplet because you do need to get to know her.

Also, even independent (private) midwives are free - covered by the Govt. YOu only have to pay if you elect to have a private Obstetrician

Ask how many they do a month - limit (safe limit) is 6 or 8 ( i cant remember) - because they can have all 6 or so in a week type thing. So ask how they do this.

We asked about their opinions on pain releaf, which hospitals they used, if they did house calls, how soon after birth they visit etc. But mainly I just wanted someone my husband felt comfortable talking to so that on "the day" he's comfortable to tell her want we want and speak on my behalf.

For me, it was less of "what should i ask" and more of "how does she make me feel", as in, am i comfortable asking her things, does she seem like the kind of person I can trust. Is she adament about things, or relatively flexible.
