I know it sounds petty, but my husband decided to tell everyone our news well before i was ready for people to know, it was really important for me to wait to share the news, i am only just adjusting myself, and am now expected to talk to his very large family about this,
has anyone else experience anything similar

We told my parents first which was really hard, and then we told my partners and then we waited quite a while to tell everyone else, I needed the time to get my head around the whole thing before we told anyone else. So I'm sorry I can't really help you on this, maybe if you avoid his family till you ready to talk about it. But that could be hard.

It is such a confusing time isnt it - so exciting to be pregnant and wanting to tell the world but scary thinking about all the responsibility etc without family pressure and their constant questions as well. We told my hubbys parents and my parents when we first found out at 5 weeks but didnt want anyone else to know, but my FIL was so excited he told everyone at the pub a few nights later, so it all came out mush earlier than I had wanted. Sorry not really similar but I kinda know how you feel. I guess the only thing I can think of to do is tell them you are still trying to get your head around the idea of being a mum at the moment and dont want to be too overwhelmed by it all right now. Theres plenty of time to talk about it over the next nine months!! Sorry for the novel!

I dont think it is petty, I had a huge fight with df when he said said something about "eating for 2" one night in front of his family, I was only 5 weeks or so and soooo not ready for them to know. Luckily his comment wasnt noticed but I was LIVID that he had almost "outed" our pregnancy before I had time to come to terms with it - so I totally understand! TOTALLY!
But having said that, it is done now, so try not to get too stressed about it (i know i know SOOO hard to do with all those hormones flying around) - but you need to be relaxing and just taking it easy. I think avoidng the family is a good idea, jsut say you are not feeling well they will understand.
Good luck, just take it one day at a time

We waited to tell people til I was 12 weeks. It was tough as we had lots of parties to go, and I of course, wasn't drinking. The next day I would have morning sickness and everyone thought i was hungover. I had so many people saying that I should be cutting down on the booze if I felt that bad the next day.

Hi Thunderwolves,
We had a similar issue - my husband spills exciting news long before I'm ready to burst with it - I contained it by visiting our friends who we could tell everything to and we told them about baby, got it out of our systems, and waited a couple of weeks for a good time to tell the families. I really enjoyed that time without family knowing, because while it's nice to enjoy their excitement too, once they do know, the baby isn't "our" thing anymore - it's like our future, our sex lives, and my body become public property in a way. And my hubby did tell mutual friends without me being ready for him to (before family, too!), which I was really annoyed about, so I can kinda understand you not being happy about it - it's not petty! I reminded myself that it just showed how excited he was about the baby.

I guess I was lucky then. We decided together that we wouldn't tell anyone for a few weeks, and were due to visit both sets of parents around the 8 week mark, so we told them then, and asked them to keep it quiet from everyone else. We had told 2 other friends at that point.
Andie .. I can understand about the 'public property' type feeling. I had 2 ppl just tell me what they thought I am having - I felt like a prize cow, even though I know it's normal for people to say stuff like that.

I come from a big family and a very traditional family so being that i am 20 and my partner and i are not married i was really scared to tell them. Everyone was great!! I told my mum and dad while my partner told his parents so no one thought they were the last to know. I hadn't quite got it through me head that i was actually having a baby but once you tell people you get all the congrats and stuff and you just feel great. I am 15 weeks and still don't think it has quite sunk in!!!
