Topic: Random Topic..... but I need help... Posted: 25 November 2005 at 9:19pm |
Andy and I are (maybe) moving to Australia... Not soon but maybe early '07
Due to work requirements we have a choice of:
Sunshine Coast
Maryborough
Bundaberg
Gladstone
Rockhampton
Mackay
Townsville
Innisfail
Cairns
I have never been to any of these places... have lived in NSW and VIC but have never spent time further up so am hoping someone can tell me about these places and why or why not we should live there?
Please help, I am so stuck... Ta!!

My mum's from Queensland and has been to all of those places. Her suggestion was Mackay because there is a lot to do around there. There are a lot of islands to visit(Brampton, south molle, hayman etc) and a rainforest nearby. You can easily get to the great barrier reef.
Cairns is very touristy so maybe if you dont like that, dont go there. You do know that they all get really hot in summer but they have great winters.

My friend lives in Cairns and says it is VERY touristy, but in saying that, lots of jobs in that sector. Also it is quite small, same size as Palmy I think. And flat so easy to bike around if that is your thing.
BIL lives in Townsville. Army-town if that appeals. Very very veryhot summers. they live inside with air-con on. and lots of snakes I think they said. they do tend to be moany people though.

My SIL & family live in the sunshine coast, and Nathaniel has extended family in Mackay. While I've never been overseas, Nat has and said that Mackay is really nice. Its further north than the Sunshine coast, so hotter, but from what my SIL has said, the Sunshine coast can get pretty warm too!
