Okay, so Thomas is getting fed every 2 hours at the moment, as I feed him his allocated amount of formula, and he just keeps wanting more and more. We tried upping the amount he gets, but he just pukes up the extra bit, so he obviously doesnt actually need it. I remember someone saying aaaages ago that theres a thicker formula that is really good for really hungry babies? Maybe I should give this a go? I honestly just cant handle 2 hourly feeds - I'm not getting anything done, I cant go out anywhere major, I cant even get wedding stuff done without him screaming cuz he's so hungry!!!
What do you guys reckon? Again he's been checked out by the doctor and theres nothing wrong with him.

Hi Alex
I am no expert but I remember my midwife telling me that formula fed babies (cause Oliver is one) still need to comfort suck, which they can't do on a bottle (end up throwing up cause they can't take the extra formula) but would normally do on the breast. So she recommended that I give Oliver his dummy during the day (at that stage I was only using it to get him to sleep during the day not when he was awake). This allows them to comfort suck without over extending their tummies.
Worth a try? If you aren't already of course....

Thomas has had a dummy since he was born.. He doesnt even want that at the moment - just food.

Caden does this aswell sometimes, he will pull off the bottle and lax out for a minute then start crying and rooting around so ill pop the bottle back in his mouth thinking he wants more food and he will just spit the milk back out, I will either give him his dummy or pop him on the breast for a few mins to suck.

Eden was a very hungry baby when she was little, especially around the 8week mark, I know they have a growth spurt around then as well, but Eden is on SMA which is a thicker formula, but i would talk to your plunket nurse and see what she says maybe??
But also i agree with Mandz about the whole dummy thing, when baby sucks on a dummy endorphins are released into their system making a happier baby, so maybe keep trying the dummy so you can get something done!

Id say its probably a growth spurt (well i hope for your sake it is) and should only last about a week. Josh was a really hungry baby and wanted a bottle every 2hr on the dot have only just started to stop that by replacing bottles with solids so he still gets something every 2-3 hrs now. We used thickened formula but it didnt do anything hunger wise just stopped him power chucking and the hungry baby formulas didnt really work either. Josh was a dummy boy and it didnt draw out his feeds either. The worst bit was feeding him every 2-3 hours during the night but then one night he randomly stopped waking up and now very rarely does he wake in the night for a feed. I only minded feeding him so often at night during the day i enjoyed it cos it forced me to sit down and watch tv and relax.

I'd say growth spurt too - that 6 week one was HUGE as I remember and went on for AGES!!!! Hang in there!

Ashlyn was a starving baby also and was formula supplemented until 13wks then fully formula, I started her on the Heinz (blue lid, sorry over 4yrs ago cant remember name) my plunket nurse on her 1st visi ask how things were going & I said about her always being hungry & wanting more & she said to try Heinz Nuture (purple lid) which absolutly worked a wonder & that is what she stayed on. Only problem is that it wasnt available in sachets so you cant buy a couple to try but maybe you could ring the supplier and see if they could send out a sample to try, just incase as it is a shame to waste a tin if it doesnt work

We used to have a problem with Gabs power vomitting when she was about that age (she is also bottlefed) Her problem was wind. She would drink a certain amount and still be hungry, but if you tried to feed her and there was wind in there then the milk would come back up.
Maybe you could try burping Thomas more often during the feed. We used to burp Gabs at least 3-4 times during the feed and that seemed to help. We also took her to an osteopath and her power vomitting got lots better after that too.
