Topic: Hope your day is better than mine! Posted: 30 October 2006 at 4:25pm |
Sorry that this is going to be a bit of a vent...
Kiya woke me just after 3am because she'd had a bad dream... a few minutes cuddling in our bed, and she was ready to go back to hers so I tucked her back down... for whatever reason I had trouble going back to sleep so I was still awake at 4:20 when she screamed out "Mummy!". I went in to her telling me she thought she was going to throw up... an hour later, she'd been sick several times as well as having a small amount of diarrhoea. Nat and I didn't really get much sleep.
We're keeping her home from school today and tomorrow, and I'll see how she is on Wednesday... so far, she has kept nothing down, not even water. Nat isn't feeling too good either, he went to work this morning, taught the first period then set his relief and came home. He's just woken up from a long sleep. We think Kiya got a tummy bug from school, and gave it to him... Josiah has been fairly grumpy today too, and had more pooey nappies than usual yesterday so he's probably next.
Kiya is being so difficult though! Nat has put her to bed, after she spent 15-20 minutes crouched over the toilet, but didn't retch once, just sobbed and grizzled. I tried to get her to lie back down on the couch, but she wouldn't listen. Nat is sure enough that she's not going to throw up again (she'd emptied her stomach about 20 minutes earlier) that he's given her an icecream container and told her she's not allowed out of her room unless she needs to go toilet.

Thanks Jax.
Doesn't help that my whole tummy is really sore today. It feels like it did after I'd had each of the other kids... really tender. I wonder if I've been having more contractions than I've actually noticed.

Ohhh that sure is tough! Have you tried the popsicle thing for Kiya? May help her keep at least something down. When she's lying down, see if she will lie on her tummy, it is easier on the tummy.
Hope you get a little more energy your way too! It's so hard being super-preg and have other littlies to look after.

I'm sorry
Ella was vomiting all yesterday and the night before.. I think that the tummy bug must be going around at the mo. I spent the weekend disinfecting everything and cleaning up after her
Hope you all feel better soon!

Wow, what an evening!
Last night, Kiya got a temperature of 39 degrees. Nat rung the after-hours doctor who said "I can give you something to bring her temp down, but you should take her to Wanganui Hospital because things can change so quickly at her age." Nat rung a couple of his fellow teachers to organise relief, I rung a friend who took Josiah for the night, and we jumped into the car.
We got to A&E at 8pm, and got in almost straight away. Turns out, Kiya does have a tummy bug and was a little dehydrated... the high temp was probably just her body trying to fight the tummy bug. We were given some rehydration drink (with the proper electrolite balance) which we had to get into her orally as best we could. The doctor said if Kiya drunk and tolerated the full 500ml, then we could take her home... otherwise she'd be admitted and alternative ways to get fluids into her would be looked at (like a nasel-gastric tube or an IV). She didn't like the taste of the drink, but took it anyway because she wanted to go home. We felt so mean that we had to keep waking her up to give her 20ml more fluid, but it was so important.
Kiya was so good and brave! We had 100ml left in the bottle, when the new (change of shift) doctor said we could take her home... we were literally getting ready to walk out the door when Kiya threw up most of what she'd drunk. The doctor said she'd probably drunk more than she could cope with and thats why it all came back up again. It was 11:20pm when we left the hospital, so it was 1am when we got home... we were all really glad to go to bed!
She seems better today... tired, and not hungry, but nowhere near as grumpy!

Tha sounds good that Kiya is feeling a bit better. I hate fevers - you never know if it is serious or not. Taine had 39 last week and Healthline were completely crap at giving any helpful advice apart from telling me what a fever does (which i can look up on the itnernet should I ever be that interested)...anyway, back to you! Hope you are feeling better too and getting that much needed rest! Good luck for the next week or so. Looking forward to seeing the pics of little Xavier.

Kiya is fine now, Roksana. And thankfully, Nat, Josiah and myself didn't catch it. As for Xavier, go check out the thread with my name on it in the Pregnancy section

Gosh sounds like you had a rough couple of days. Just as well the family was on the mend when bubs decided he wanted to come into the world. Perfect timing.
