Topic: Professional baby shots Posted: 26 June 2008 at 6:57pm |
Hey all Just wondering if anyone has had professional portraits done of their newborns and how much they paid? Our wedding photographer has offered to do some family/newborn shots for us for $300 but really have no idea what they would be worth!
Plus, what age did you find is best to have them done?

We had professional shots done of Jack a few weeks before his birthday and they were absolutely brilliant. We paid $150 for an hour (he was sick of it after about 40mins) got 71 shots of him and us all on disc plus 1 enlargement. This is onviously not going to be too much help for you though as we are in Akl.
The Treasures mag (the latest I think) has an article on how to take professional looking shots of your newborn yourself.
ETA: he was crawling at the time which wasn't too bad but a friend had hers done at about the same time and her DD was walking and apparently it was really hard to keep her in one place

wow - that sounds awesome! I'm torn between wanting real newborn (ie: under a month old) shots or waiting till it's a bit older... at that price can't afford two sessions!! I'll have to check out Treasures I think...

I got Cheeky Chops to come to my house when the girls were 6 weeks old. She doesn't charge a sitting fee and the photos were amazing.

I have heaps of professional shots of Maya (and none of the gremlins ), most of them were thru fundraisers at preschool, daycare etc. with Positive Negatives and Icons. But when she was 3 I forked out waaaay too much money to get some proper portraits done by Patrick Bellet and I them. They were really, really expensive (I think about $4k all up for the prints and the sitting fee was about $400) but they are brilliant, and she can hand them down to her kids.

That's who did our photos and we were really happy with them. Will be heading back when #2 is 1yr (not that #2 is even a twinkle in DH's eye yet!)

We had a family sitting when Michaela was about 7mo. The sitting was free but the resulting photos cost us $1600. Pretty expensive but totally worth it.

I had some photos taken of me in what I thought was going to be my last week of pregnancy - ended up not having Oliver until 41 + 5. And they turned out amazing. I took up the "My First Year" package deal, where Fiona takes photos of you pregnant, then your baby as a newborn (we didn't do this but only cause I could barely get through the days as it was), at 4 months, 8 months and again at 1 year old. From memory I think this costs $150 per time and you get a 5 x 7 print with that. You can obviously buy more if you want. I gave the print of myself pregnant to DH for our first wedding anniversary - he loved it!
Details are:

Fiona was absolutely lovely. She would have been at my home - cause she comes to you - for at least an hour and a half and took heaps of photos.
I plan to have some of the 4 month ones taken with both DH and I so that we can have some really nice family photos around the house.

I'm thinking of getting some done of Eva shortly. I think she's at a good age, as she can sit well, but can't yet crawl. A friend of mine and her husband are a photographer and makeup artist, so will give us a great rate.Reminds me that I must arrange it!
I also got some pregnancy shots done at 32 weeks, by my wedding photographer (Amanda Wignell). Was really pleased with them.

we got some of the kids and a family one. cost a small fortune. I love the photo we chose of the three kids together which got blown up big (not sure what size) then we got 6 more. we paid around $2500 for all and didnt get the negatives (wasn't even an option)
I love the one of the three kids but could of done without the others... got carried away in the moment. and i don't really like the fmaily one but Dh wanted it
I have taken a few myself which if I do say so myself just as good if not better than the professional ones we got done. and you can blow them up yourself too.
This is my fav of rhyley on my hand at 6 weeks old and pretty easy to do getting the right back ground and editing software.
