DH is going to Singapore for work for a week in February, and I am seriously considering going with him and taking H as well - he'll be almost 10 months then.

The only thing is, I'll be basically on my own during the day - how easy do you think it'll be to get out and about with bub, do a bit of shopping, site seeing etc? How baby friendly is Singapore?

Easy! You will be fine. We have been there numerous times and I find it a pretty easy place to get around. the zoo is very cool. Would recommend a small umbrella stroller thou rather than a larger one.

One of the girls on here lives in Singapore but can't remember her username but no doubt she will be able to help you out heaps.

Haha! It's me

Absolutely come if you can swing it. Singapore is EASY PEASY with a baby. Truly.

An umbrella stroller will definitely be easier for getting around and things. But not a huge deal really. If you have a comfy carrier that will be really handy too.

Public transport is awesome so hopefully you'd be staying somewhere fairly close to a train station and plenty of shopping

You will find loads of stuff to do to fill your days, not just the tourist stuff like the Zoo (which is fab, we're joining soon so we can go all the time. They have a cool water play area in the kids' zoo) but just looking round the malls and eating out too. Singapore is SUPER child friendly, you'll be able to go out for dinner and no one will look at you funny if your child is running around and chatting away like a normal baby

Couple of things re transport - taxis are cheap cheap and convenient but you'll mostly flag them down in the street or pick up from a stand and they won't have car seats. It's not compulsory for children to be restrained in cars here till they're about 8 or 9 and so a lot of people just hold them on their laps. At the moment (at almost 12m and 11kg) I am still squeezing C into his capsule, we've got 2kgs till he reaches the limit and then we'll be hitting the trains a LOT more.

If you want a tour guide for a day or some company at the zoo just let me know

Thanks girls, I am getting all excited now!

kiwisj, what's the weather likely to be doing in Feb? And I assume it's pretty easy to buy formula, nappies etc?

Have no idea yet where we'll be staying but presume it's central. And I might just take you up on your offer! Is it ok if I pm you with more questions?

Of course it's OK to PM with more questions - fire away!

Nappies and formula, yep easy as. Which formula do you use at the mo? Callum is on NAN Pro, we used the NAN Pro Gold in NZ with no probs. There's quite a selection in the supermarket although they don't have Heinz or Karicare (which I gather are the popular ones in NZ?).

Food wise, if you're in a hotel jars are probably easiest. They have Heinz here and Gerber and a whole range of good organic ones too, including Only Organic. Fresh tropical fruit is CHEAP too

Nappies - there's Huggies, Pampers, Drypers, Mamy Poko. I think they're the main ones. Huggies are expensive and not as good as the Huggies you buy in NZ but the cheaper nappies are fine IMO.

The weather will be doing what it does all year Hot, sunny, humid, maybe rainy. You won't need ANY warm clothes, you probably won't wear jeans. Skirts, t-shirts, short sleeved blouses, singlets, shorts, jandals, sandals are all good. Temp ranges from 28 - 33ish year round. It's rainy season at the mo (one big downpour at some point in the day) but should be over by Feb.

Yay. Lucky you getting to come hang out for a week while your DH is working!

lol we were in singapore in september with ryan at 14 months. IT WAS HOT AND HUMID AND STICKY. I recommend singlets and shorts. DOn' even bother with pants or long sleeves.

We had our umbrellla stroller and it was fantastic.
