Topic: NZ baby stuff Posted: 14 June 2009 at 10:04am |
So my gf in Japan is having a baby. She has been a great friend to us, and we want to send her a package. But not sure what to put in it. so far we are going to buy a buzzy bee. But, japan has GREAT baby stuff - better than NZs range, so the kinds of things we want MUST be exclusive to NZ, small enough to post...and not cost the earth, cause this package to send is going to send me broke as it is. any ideas? websites? specialty places?

You could get a Mary Lou Doll or a Oscar Ostrich which are made by the same comapny that makes the Buzzy Bee.
Or what about books? Picture books can be light and less expensive to post. I really like "A Kiwi Night Before Christmas" and "Kiwi Jingle Bells" which you can get from whitcoulls. Plus there are quite a few Kiwi picture books available now

Natre Baby - there are some really cute tiki print bodysuits if you want something "NZ", and all the clothing is fantastic quality organic cotton and merino. They sell buzzy bees too

I second Nature Baby - some cool t-shirts. Not sure about websites but I've seen adorable cowskin slippers at Redcurrent.
Oh, and I think Bobux is a NZ company too, very cute shoes. They have a website.

As a kiwi mummy living overseas these are the things I have hankered after and often paid huge postage costs to get sent here...
Lucas Paw Paw cream (not NZ but all the kiwi mums rave about it), Weleda products, Merino beanies / clothing in general, NZ kids books (hairy mclary etc), toffee pops, scorched almonds and caramello choc are a must have's for a lactating mummy, safety sleep, tea tree oil, manuka honey UMF 15 for pregnant / breastfeeding mummy with a cold, Bobux boots
Other ideas... buzzy bee mobile (lighter than the pull along toy), a friend has these neat NZ native birds that are soft and play the real birdsong when you press their tummy (the tui makes me tear up!) they are really lovely but very touristy so probably $$)
Keep in mind the seasons/general temperatures where she is though as some clothing gifts we were sent were all wrong for the season.
