Topic: in the supermarket... Posted: 04 July 2009 at 12:15am |
this old lady came up to me today, looked at Joy and said to me "how did you get such a blonde little one?"...I wondered if I really had to enlighten this woman about THAT but was so flabbergasted that I say nothing...then she asks if my husband is blonde and I say no. She then notices that Joy's nose is running slightly, and says to Joy "do you ... Read Morehave a cold?" and pulls a USED tissue out of her pocket and procedes to wipe my childs nose with it...then says "oh I used to do this all the time, I'm an aunty"! She walks off saying over her shoulder to Joy "now you can drink your drink" WHAT THE...??????!!!!!!

Hehe old ladies in supermarkets are funny! I had one come up to me a few weeks ago when I was just putting the capsule onto the trolley. She asked me why I didn't park in the Wheelchair parks. I said "because I don't have a wheelchair" and she said "But you have a baby" then told me to wait there while she went to her car to get her disability card to see if it said people with babies can use it (which I know they can't!) so she trundles off really slow then came back with it and said "This is what it looks like, you should ask your doctor if you can get one" and I just said "OK..." haha. Sweet of her to care but really...

sunnyhoney EW EW EW ... I feel sick just reading this, poor you! Gross that she used a used tissue to wipe Joy's nose
I had a lady come up to me in Mothercare the other day and she was going on about how content Callum looked and how old he looked (she thought he looked older than he is .... I think he looks younger than he is) and how lucky I am. Poor boy had JUST woken from a nap so was in a complete daze while she was clucking in his face. She meant well, but still - people say the strangest things to people they don't even know!

I was having a coffee in a mall with another Mum and baby, and this older grandma-type lady (who obviously spoke no english at all.....) came up to me - Natalie was sitting on my knee, and did the universal hand gestures for "she has such nice hair and why don't you give her to me for a cuddle" making baby/clucky noises. I politely indicated I was not handing my baby over to her, but I'm guessing she was of eastern european origin (or somewhere similar) where it is much more common to hand babies over to random strangers! I didn't really want to offend her, because she seemed nice....but all the same, I wasn't handing my baby over!
