What to do next?

Newmama, yeah Im thinking about trying it again, as he's on a constipation formula but he's not so constipated anymore and it's very expensive.

Should he be on a thickened formula?

Lactose intolerance symptoms were: Rumbling/gurgling tummy as soon as milk hit it, colic like crying, Millions of watery, frothy poos per day, severe nappy rash. True lactose intolerance is very, very rare in babies, we had to do a poo sample to check it out. I've heard that some reflux and colic babies do better on lactose free formula without actually being lactose intolerant.

Lately, I've been giving Lachie his bottle, and letting him drink what he wants, then making up the rest of the milk with farex and spoon feeding him with a wee bit of pear or pumpkin. I do this once or twice a day after his fussiest bottles, which seems to be in the morning mostly He loves it!

Sounds very like a dairy intolerance to me. Intolerances are generally tummy/ digestion related as opposed to a full on allergy which is an immune response. But, I'm no expert. Our paed thought Lachie has mild dairy intolerance too but said as he's so 'well' in all other ways- it may not be a necessity to change to neocate as he should grow out of it in the next couple months. But, we've got a trial tin of neocate so I may see what happens in the next couple weeks. I don't really want to change it as apparently the neocate tastes pretty gross- it sure smells foul!!
A friend of mine gave me the numbers of a natropath in beachlands that she used with her dd. So successful that she was able to wean off losec and just use the natural stuff. I also have the name of an excellent osteopath in clevedon. Let me know if you want their names/ numbers.

I have tried him on thickened formula since last Wednesday and he seems to actually be spilling more which is weird, big power chucks.

He's been on the new medicine for nearly a week no improvement. Sigh.

We have a follow up with the paed tomorrow hopefully he can give us something else to do.

Erinmc, my boy looks really well too he's thriving in every other way, does things before you'd expect, has great skin, really smiley happy baby so it's hard to get doctors to believe what he's like at other times.

Im excited.

Had follow up at the paed today and he gave us a trial tin of Neocate, and baby has had 210 mls of it after not having more than 30mls of formula this morning at breakfast.

He only spilled once and not very much and no screams, yay. I know it's early days but Im optimistic and at least he drank it.

He has also upped his losec and other meds and was talking more invasive tests if it doesn't help

I didn't need to he took it right away so I was very lucky!

How long till I should see an effect?

He seems better and is drinking it but still spilling a reasonable amount this afternoon

We seem to be going well thanks erinmc, he takes the neocate well and his spilling is much less, he still screams sometimes when I try to feed him but I think it's more out of habit than anything else as once I get him to take the bottle he's fine, like he realises it doesnt hurt.

Got a big shock when he pooed black and green yesterday LOL but apparently that happens on neocate.

He's sleeping really well too I don't know if it's coincidence or what but it's good either way.

Just trying to chase up to get some more tins of neocate which is proving difficult that stuff is like gold.
