Gremlins with grommets! Sienna had hers done this morning, and I was surprised to discover that she had two acute infections. She's never grizzled or pulled her ear the way Mercedes did and I certainly didn't notice any hearing problems, but apparently she will have been in quite a bit of pain. Makes me feel like a bit of a bad mother for not picking it up earlier!

But can I just say again, go the grommets! It is such a minor, quick procedure (in and out in less than two hours) and it makes such a huge difference.

One other observation, why do people assume that having three kids makes me a good mother? I had to take all three with me to the hospital and another lady there with her baby was like "oh, I don't know how you do it!" and I'm like, "umm, hello? Did I get a choice here?" Nope! I do it because I have to. I get up every morning like the rest of the world and just get on with it. I am not a supermum, or even a particularly good mum, I just do the best I can. I still yell at my kids, and get frustrated with them, and feed them baked beans for dinner from time to time just like anyone else!

LOL, sorry, this turned into a rant! Did I mention that I was up at 5am this morning?

lolol. Emma you are a great mum - lol at least you can admit to those things, good mums can show their kids they aren't perfect and not be afraid of it. lololol.

Gotta love peoples weird comments.

Hugs to your girls.

It is amazing that the doctors don't pick up these infections...if you can't trust a doc to see an ear infection what are your other options? I mean, is it common that they miss them? It seems scary that you girls had severe infections and yet the docs said they were fine.....

Hooray for grommets! They have made such a difference in Emma Rose's life too -- her speech has improved so much that she now says "Poopie" after she's done, well, poopies in her diaper. Hmm. I suppose now I really do need to clean up my potty mouth...

I'm a bit suspicious of doctors and ears since I took Mercedes to the doctor on the Fri and he said "oh yes, her ear's a bit red" and then she went to get grommets on the Wed and the specialist said she had two severe infections and lots of pus, and one burst ear drum. How can that be "a little bit red?" Hence why I got the specialist to check Sienna's ears while he was doing Mercedes'.

If you're worried about Elle's ears, I say get a referral to a specialist, they have the right equipment to have a decent look at their ears. It can't do any harm!

Not worried in this instance but it is a bit scary to think you need to get a referral to a specialist to get something so routine done! (plus I am in a very grumpy mood today so will complain about anything given half a chance!!!)

Hey Emma I had an ear infection 2 yrs ago and according to the doctor I should have been in agony but I actually had no pain at all, it just felt like when you have been flying and it needs to pop. So she may not have been in pain with them. Unfortunately for me cos it didn't hurt I didn't go and see the doc till i was nearly deaf and have now got tinitus in that ear. Oh well, my hearing is fine now and I don't notice the ringing most of the time either. Will be a bit quicker getting seen if it happens again though.

Glad to hear the grommets are working out. Lol about the mum comment.

At least it's been found out now, not in another few months. Hannah and Briona were given the all-clear on their ears last week so I am feeling quite relieved about that! Recently I was heading into the library with my 3 and a woman behind me said "you must be a busy mum" - and I was like (thinking:) "yea that's my nickname, do you know me??" whoops lol
