one of the ladies i work with has a 10month old daughter. another work mate told me that when they were leaving work the other day that she saw her put her daughter on her knee (she was in the front seat and her DH was driving) put the seatbelt over both of them and then drive off

Work mate asked her about it the next day and she said that they dont do it much she said 75% of the time DD is in the carseat plus they only do it on short trips (they live 20mins from work and have to go down a very busy road to get there!)

i cant believe she is so stupid!!!!! grrrrrrrrrrrrrr all it will take it is 1 second for something to go wrong and for something to happen to their beautiful DD!

That drives me fricken nuts! Does she not realise that most accidents happen within something like a 5km radius of their home!
Unfortunetly in this country though, we still have a VERY blase attitude toward car seat safety. I'm sure there are lots of videos on Youtube demonstrating what happens to people/babies in inadequate restraints - perhaps you could show her a few in the hope that she takes notice. I find that people like this tend to say, 'oh I know, but we only do it every so often'

I totally hear feel your pain!

I was at daycare the other day and watched a family rock up with 3 kids in the car and not one carseat!! The teachers were upset. They have called the police but the family then parks around the corner and walks in. The only thing that we could see as a positive was that they went to daycare....at least for some hours a week they were loved, cared for and look after.

Yes, some people are stoopid. It's the Higher Power's way of making sure they don't take over the gene pool.

Bloody hell!! I'd consider 20 mins a long journey!

Does she not realise that in an accident the force of her own body forward against the seat belt will crush the child regardless of how big or small the accident is!

I see people doing this all the time! Really annoys me! I thought it was meant to be illegal??

And to say she doesn't do it all the time is crap as it only takes one time for something to go wrong!

people like that make my blood boil a child/baby should be properly restrained in a carseat.

no matter how "short" a trip is my children are always put into their carseats (and buckled in of course) in fact my daughter's daycare is about a 5 minute drive but neither my husband nor I would dream of not putting her in her carseat.

and yup it takes one time to have an accident and to wind up with a dead baby :(

Wow I didn't know people still did this?! I was shocked when I asked my mum what kind of carseat I had as a baby, and she said I didn't have one! They used to lie me on the back seat and sometimes I'd fall off
Thought people would know better these days

That is so ignorant and downright neglectful - makes me so mad that people think that is okay, how stupid are they??????????? But then people still drive drunk and they have to know how stupid it is but just dont care. How can you not care about your baby's safety?? How disgusted with yourself would you be for the rest of your life if you were the cause of your baby's death because you didnt do what you knew to be the right thing (using a carseat).

ARGH

OMG how can people be so clueless about the safety of their child in this day and age???!!! And since when is 20 mins a short trip???

I can't believe people would willingly endanger their child like that!
