I'm sure there's probably plenty of threads on this somewhere but after hunting I can't figure out where, doh

I'm wondering how you can tell if your baby has reflux?

Bethany has always been a spilly baby, but the more I think about it, the more I wonder if her amount of spilling is normal. She's generally very happy, though does have her moments of crying as if in pain, often followed by a sick (or a dirty nappy!). Either that or she gags and chokes first. For the last week or so her spills have been frequent, huge and sometimes projectile-like. She usually spills at some point during any tummy time. She doesn't seem to be bothered by it as far as I can tell, but she's also had periods of time of being out-of-sorts over the last few weeks, too.

I don't want to go to my GP just cuz I wonder, would rather try and figure it out a little more first!

Anyone have any tips or thoughts?

Thanks

my darling had reflux and the big thing that the drs always asked was "is his spilling bothering him?" He was on medication for it for a couple months. He still spills and pukes all the time now but i wouldnt say he has reflux because he doesn't scream when it happens and it doesn't seem to hurt him for milk to come up. Hope this helps. I know the spilling is a pain ae. My advice buy lots and lots of cheap bibs lol

Lots of babies have reflux to a degree, it's all about how miserable it makes them.

For me, the biggest clue was the facials Jackson made when he spilled. Oh, and the fact that he wouldn't eat but that hasn't got any better!!

www.cryingoverspiltmilk.co.nz is one of the best resources and there is a whole list of symptoms that you can check off.

angel4 that does sound like Bethany. Hehe yep we have truckloads of bibs and still keep running out! Harder at the mo cuz now that she's grabbing and pulling at everything it's difficult to get bibs that fit perfectly around her neck - thus she still manages to sick right down her clothes, lol!

Ta for the website Laurie!

Hi we had a period of projectile vomitting as well - but this was put down to overfeeding - it was happening once a day for about a week at the same time each day. We are struggling currently with an ear infection which isn't much fun especially for bubs!

Cian has silent reflux, but the projectile vomiting stopped as soon as I cut out dairy products from my diet... quite a drastic measure (and REALLY hard!!) but well worth it in the end...

I'd recommend crying over spilt milk too - it's a fantastic resource and i even printed out their list of symptons to take to the dr to force them to do something about it!
