i dont think the formula i am using is making my 7 week old bubs full?

we are usiing karicare (not the gold) and yes we have tried to give more but she seems to want more and more and more, and feel as though we are always giving her a bottle, shes having crap sleeps too, waking very frequently (even within the 1st hour) to feed.

i am aware that around this time there is a growth spurt and babies can and do feed more.
i have my last midwife app today and a karitane nurse is coming in the arvo so will obviously have a chat to them about this, but wanted to know if anyone has come across this and did you switch to another formula, and what was it and did you find bubs was full and slept better? thanks

Give people time to answer.

We haven't had that problem, and our girls are on Karicare as well. How much are you giving her and how often at the moment? Our girls are 11 weeks old, and on 140mls 4x a day, and 150mls at night. They're putting on pretty good weight at those levels (they are only 8lb8oz and 8lb11oz at the moment, so possibly on a par with your 7wk old).

Is she definitely hungry, and doesn't have wind or anything like that (a baby who has wind will suck for comfort because it eases the pain in their tummy)?

she is winded often, shes definately hungry, as we give her sips of water as well so its not thirst.

she has a dummy every so often, im not a huge of those.

shes having 150ml but is wanting about 50 more after shes had the bottle. so just this week we have been giving her 200ml but shes not happy n full, always showing signs of still being hungry, its a nightmare.

shes also gained weight really well, although today will be the 1st weigh in, in 2 weeks so who knows if its slowed down or kept going at the same rate as previous weigh ins

Have you thought about a different formula? I hated Karicare for Charlotte, she was windy, rashy and not happy. I swapped to Heinz Nurture and she was a different baby after that. I also didn't use the gold version, just the standard one and it rocked.

As you said, maybe she is also going through a growth spurt a bit early (usually around 8 weeks) but every baby is different!

You can buy the sachets of Heinz at the Supermarket so maybe give some a go? I am not a heap of help but it definitely worked for me.

I will suggest speaking to a Dr. I dont know a lot about formula but you have to stick with the recommendations on the actual tin. Dont be tempted to give more than that as it can put a big strain on the baby's kidneys. Rather get another formula that is a bit fuller for her.

Babies also have a big need to just suck. I am also not very happy with dummy's but see if she is not willing just to suck one for a bit?

It could be that she has an upset tummy??? I wouldnt give her more than the recommended amount at that age.

Perhaps try a different formula or hungry babies???

Maybe try a different formula - we started with SP26 Gold - but changed about 3 times before getting it right. She could be having a growth spurt as you mentioned as well - maybe if you want help now give the Plunket Line a ring.
