Topic: Cheap Kiddie/Toddler Books? Posted: 29 July 2008 at 2:21pm |
I used to be with Double Day but I found them far too expensive, but now I need to get our book collection back up, Lucas has wrecked quite a few of them & I swear half have disappeared into thin air. But as they say, the best loved books are usually the ones that are wrinkled/crinkled and ripped (that's my excuse at least lol)
So can anyone suggest any websites that do great deals? Or at least reasonably priced? Or even any TradeMe users who deal in this area?
TIA

We get most of our books from the warehouse. We got some really awesome books on the weekend that were daniel friendly and quite high quality thomas the tank engine books. They had loads there we wanted to take home but we limit ourselves to 4 per visit lol

I just bought some books thru Total Learning too coz a friend had a party, and have bought from them in the past.
My trick for building up a book collection tho was to do school fairs, you can often get bags of second hand books for $2-$5 and a lot of them are classics, Little Golden Books etc.

Steph, I'm not much help in that dept because most of our books belonged to my niece and nephew when they were younger but I was thinking I'm going to start taking Michaela on a weekly trip to the local library to pick up a few books. Best of all it's free!
Oh and OT Michaela and Lucas are the same weight.

Pretty good for a picky eater huh, total credit to breastfeeding
Stacey I've found Warehouse books fantastic in the past too ...only problem is our local Warehouse is a pigsty so I wouldn't even bother going down there to have a look. That totally gives me an idea though for a day trip.
Anyone know if the Sylvia Park Warehouse has a good selection of kids books? I haven't been there in just under a year now

I am lucky and have a friend who works at Whitcoulls so I get a heap of sample book when the publishers come in she puts them aside and then brings them up to me.

if you are ever on the Shore, there is an outlet book shop in Constellation Drive...they had a sale a couple of weeks ago so I stocked up some books (they had a cool pop up book which makes sounds when you open it- only $5 and Ella loves it).

$2 shops and 1 2 3 $ shops. We got some great ones for our boy from there. These awesome "chatter chatter" ones where you can move the mouth so it looks like the person/animal on each page is talking. Really sturdy too, thick cardboard.
There' s a scholastic warehouse somewhere in east tamaki that has flippin awesome sales but I can't remember when/where.

I was going to buy all of Caitlin's books but found that it was just too expensive and took up too much room (she already has 2 bookcases full to the brim!) so we now go to the library at least once a week, the selection is huge (and free!) and you can always get favourites out again and again (or buy them)
Total learning are good, a tad pricey but the books are all high quality. If you get $200+ sales the host gets a credit (I was $5 short from my party *sulks* lol)

You should have said Toni, I would have ordered something else!
I also cheat, I get lots of review copies from publishers for work.

Steph how about 2nd hand book stores? I got Sam a whole pile a little while back from one. Spent around $20 for 10+ books all in great condition.
Other than that Sam loves the Warehouse ones with animal sounds for $3
