I've never actually found the time to make an emergency kit. Trouble is, with a young family, our needs change about every three months! so I'm never quite sure "how" to pack IYGWIM. Short story is, we'll be praying lots!!!!

We have a basic survival kit with essential items eg. Fist aid kit, water, food, torch, radio, spare batteries, clothes, blankets etc

If I had warning of impending EQs id head to the Caves & go deep underground, apparently the safest place to be in an earthquake

So for those of you who have emergency kits, how often do you check them...

Are the batteries ok, has bulb blown in the torch, have any of the meds in the first aid kit gone past their expiry etc???

When I was a kid we lived in Townsville and I was petrified of cyclones. We didnt have an emergency kit and i was always telling Mum we needed one. We got trapped on Magnetic Island during a cyclone, thankfully the hotel had emergency stuff

Instead of getting a emergency pack (which I am sure would have been cheaper) we moved back to NSW!

DH laughs at me whenever I bring up a pack, says we dont need it in Auckland... think I might start one up anyway... You just never know!

Hi, I found that whole programme fascinating, followed by completely freaking me out. I'm from the UK so earthquakes not something I have grown up with. We live near Wellington on a hill so if it happened while we were at home we would be fine, but what I got from that programme is if you were in a low lying suburb or the city no matter what you did you would be in tricky situation

we have torches and stuff, but probably could have more done, I just don't like to think about it.
