Krystiana still(?) has a cold, she's not chesty with bronchilitis like last week so I presume this is the tail end of the same bug. Anyway she's all blocked up and finding it hard to breathe. I have Vicks on me and will be buying baby Vicks tomorrow (but I think it's for 3mos+ anyway?). I've put breastmilk in her weepy eye and tried to get some up her nose tonight (much to DH's horror lol). Anything else to do?

Oh and the Vicks has been burning my skin a bit, is that because I'm lactating?

would tiger balm work instead of vicks perhaps? might be less harsh...and try putting some on her pillow...so its next to her but not on her skin...maybe even for you too...

You could put vicks on a tissue and inside a pillow case that Krystiana can sleep on. I also put in a bowl of boiling hot water (oil burner while I was around) vicks and Lavender oil which worked for the girls. Olbis oil from chemist is also good but also put this on tissue inside pillow case so not on skin. For her eye you could use (weak) salted water, & you can also use cooled boiled water for up the nose, I used to have some fun times trying to get milk up the girls noses and would end up having it everywhere, found a syringe or eye dropper were very handy. Good luck and hope this passes fast

oh you poor things! i don't know any remedies that would work but if she's really having trouble sleeping you could put some thick books under the legs at the head of her cot/bassinet to raise her head a bit.

also, my sister's baby had a gunky eye and she put BM in it every feed and it cleared up after about 4 days of that, so good luck!

hope everyone feels better soon.

he he, Mike was horrified when i did the breastmilk thing too - if her eye doesn't clear up within a day or so or doing this you might need something stronger.. pretty common for some kids to get conjunctivitis cos of blocked tear ducts when they are sick. (That's Ayja's trick, nearly every cold)

With the nose you could try Saline drops but chances are they would kinda do the same job as the breastmilk - ie make the runny nose a bit runnier and that way she can swallow it.. ewwww.

And i second what others have said, when we were kids, mum used to put a bit of vicks on a hanki and tuck it into the fron tof our singlet, or pin it to our jammies... it can be harsh on the skin if it's applied directly alot.

You could try some vicks in a bowl of hot (not boiling) water under her cot - really helps Joshua when he's had a cold.

Should I be worried if her eye ducts don't "wallow" after so many days? Her eyes aren't gunky, just teary-looking and tears don't get "swallowed" either.

Nah, blocked tear ducts are pretty normal, they can disappear if you break the little adhesions that are in the eye duct.
Make sure that when you wipe, (1)wipe from in to out, then (2)in to out along the bottom of the eye socket where the draining duct is.
Example:

Olivia had snuffles and a weepy eye at 3 months. Warm clothes, lots of rest when she was tired and keep the room dry, I used a dehumidifier in our room when Olivia was up. I also put the Vicks hanging in her room when she was asleep. I also kept her upright when she was awake as much as possible, in the jolly jumper and bouncinette. I wish I'd of had a front pack that would have been good too.
