and not in a good way!! We had a 5.9 earthquake here in Hawkes Bay last night, and apart from the fact that it scared the crap out of us all it also reminded me that we have no emergency kit! Or even a plan as to who would grab what kid etc!  Good I guess to get a reminder about these things, it is on my to do list now thats for sure!!  Do you have an emergency plan or a kit at your house?

I felt it too here, and I paniced as I am so scared of them.

We don't have a kit as such but I do know where everything is if we needed it and we do have water stored outside and inside.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

after the storms a few weeks back it made me realise i needed to be more prepared for things- we lost power from 4pm-12.30am and although it wasnt too long in the scheme of tings it was winter we had no other heating, one torch etc...

in saying that i still havent stocked up on those things which we didnt have

I think they said on the news it was centered somewhere near hastings.  There was a good rumbling sound with it too, freaky!  I am scared of them too Becks

Rach good idea to have a plan, all those places that lost power!  Think I will check out the back of the phone book and see what they recommend in a kit.

Here is the info about it. 10kms SW of Hastings.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

Ooooh earthquakes are scary!!  We had REALLY bad thunder a few nights ago which scared the crap out of Dh & I!  It was sooo freakin' loud it shook the house.  Must've been right over top of us.

Anyway, we do have our survival kit all sorted.  We have 2 weeks worth of food & water.  Thermal blankets & ponchos (those plastic raincoat ones).  First aid kit, torch with built in radio & beacon with phone charger point, lighter, & tea candles.  Dh sorted it all for us.  He's a .

We have one "run away"  small backpack bag which is located in the garage where if we need to take off with no time to pack anything (like a tsunami is coming) that has the basic food, water & first aid kit to last a few days.  Then we have a large backpack filled with thermal blankets & the works to last us 2 weeks.
