Im full of Q's tonight lol

So tonight I turned my digital camera on and the zoom thingy came out and then it kept saying zoom error and the zoom thingy won't retract. DP is playing around with it but it won't do anything.

What happens now? Can I claim insurance on it? What do I need to do? I have never claimed for anything except when we had the earthquake and DP did that, do I need to find the reciepts and things for it? or does someone just take a look at the camera? I have Classic contents insurance with ASB.

It sounds like a fault with the camera which won't be covered, insurance only covers accidental damage or theft. Depending on how long you've had it tho it may be still under warranty?

Also depends on the excess on your contents policy, it may not be worth claiming when you take into account the excess and potential loss of no claims bonus.

Warranty is usually 12 mths but worth checking coz some are 2 years.

If it was damaged when it was dropped then it should be covered, State replaced my laptop when Maya tipped a glass of water over it. Still check out the excess thing tho, mine is $150 plus I lose my no claims so I don't bother claiming for anything under about $400, but all policies are different and some have permanent no claims discounts so you don't lose them if you claim.

Ohhh what my laptop died last year when I knocked soup on it and I just chucked it away not thinking they would cover it!

Anyway yeah the camera just has a 12 month warranty

I will have to find my policy and read it, either way I need a new camera immediately and really can't afford to fork out for one with a holiday coming up im so gutted.

You can probably just ring them and they can tell you right away if you can claim for it. You could correctly say that it hasn't worked since N knocked it off the shelf, so you think it's attributable to that. Cameras are very delicate so I wouldn't doubt it.

Our contents insurance has an excess of $100 and when we had similar issues with our camera it cost about $100 so sometimes it's worth checking out your excess and then also taking it somewhere for a quote/estimate. Here in Palmy, you get charged a minimal fee ($40?) for them to open it up and see what's wrong so that they can quote. Of course that then becomes part of the final fee if you continue.

Cool, I checked my policy and I have a $150 excess, you know how it says per claim.... DP is trying to tell me that in the event that our house was robbed we would have to pay $150 for every item we claimed for, my argument is wouldn't you just pay it once becuase even though there are several items it's just one claim. Hes saying nah im wrong because mechanical insurance works like that the excess is for each item on the car u claim for.

I think we are a bit too sheltered lol.

So I have to take the camera in to see if it can be repaired? Would that be a camera repairer place? I'll have to have a look in the yellow pages. Then I just keep the receipt for that?
Insurance said I also have to provide proof of ownership... having the camera and receipt would be enough right? I might give them a call now... it says they are open 24 hours a day.. CRAZY

Where did you get the camera from? I'd start with them and go from there.

When our car was stolen and items from it disappeared permanently, we had one excess to pay and that was it.

Paying $150 for every item stolen?
What would be the point in having insurance if that was the case!

I hope you got in sufficient rubbing

Yeah I did, hes 10 years older than me so he thinks he knows eeeevvverything so this morning when he was trying to tell me that Neosha should be in her highchair everytime she has a cracker I reminded him that last night remember when you were wrong get used to that feeling lol

For some unknown reason he though mechanical breakdown insurance which he sells is the same as contents insures Yeeeeah lol

He had another moment of genius last night which I thought was funny he said:

"hun you know how it says in here that we should have photographic evidence of our contents in case we get robbed?' yeah? "we should do that now if you want, grab the camera"
ummmm we are looking through our insurance policy BECAUSE WE HAVE NO CAMERA u nongy lol

Anyway off to dig out these receipts
