Topic: Stuff to do and places to stay - WGTN Posted: 13 May 2008 at 3:31pm |
DH and I are heading down to Wellington for a little getaway in June and I just wondered if people had any ideas of places we could go (no car) and somewhere nice to stay. We want to stay in town, so that we are walking distance of lots of places... a nice hotel?
TIA

Keziah and I are off to Wellington in June too *note the ticker* But I have family down that way so we're staying with them in the Hutt so I can't offer you any advice on where to stay etc
have a look on Jasons Travel It's a great website for things like that

There are so really nice hotels down there but their names have gone out of my mind at the moment. Going up the cable car is cool.

You could walk up Mt Vic - long walk but great views.

Good on you guys. Should be fun.
When you say nice - how nice do you mean? Luxury? And what kind of budget? There are so many great places to stay in Wellington and most things are "within walking distance" cos Wellington is great like that.
There are a couple of lovely boutique BnBs in Thorndon that i've heard good things about. Or you could look at a serviced apartment right in the central city and there are some really great ones there too.
A nice thing to do if the weather is playing nice is to take the ferry across to Eastbourne for lunch etc. Nice way to see the harbour. At one of the landfills, you can do a tour which is honestly fascinating and they have a trout farm where you can fish. There are great walks all around Wellington too. I really love the Ohariu Wilton bush walk and thats a short bus trip from the central city. Cuba Street is great for quirky shopping - good place to explore when you have lots of time and Lambton Quay has all the usual favourite shops.
I work at the Council so have access to lots of info. PM me your email address if you would like me to forward you anything in particular. Have fun.
