Excuse my ignorance here. I don't know it this is just a stupid question so apologies if it is!!!
We are going away next weekend with some friends who have a boat (speed boat/jet boat type thing)
Is it safe for a 17 month old to go out in it? Obviously we would only do it if we can get a life jacket for his size and weight. But other than that is it fine?
Thanks so much for any advice.

you MUST take a life jacket and it should be one with crutch safety strap.

You can hire via coastguard or buy - about $150 plus for a bubba one...we just bought ella hers.

Ok depends on size of boat....if you arent used to it then check it out first...we probably wont take ella overnight til she is older....ours is a 7.2 meter one....and we used to have a bigger one that i still wasnt keen on her overnighting on....DH was UNTIL she arrived! and now she is mobile I am less keen = as is he and he is a mega boatie!

I think you have some work to do on finding out more before you go...are you actually overnighting ON the boat or camping on beach? does it have a cabin etc...

if you find out make and length of boat PM me = DH is in coastguard etc and I can let you know a bit more about type of boat etc etc...where are you going too....gets COLD out there now at night....real cold...DH and I sleep on boat in harbours occasionally from now at weekend and BRRRRRRR....lovely to wake up to and nice to be on boat but BRRRRRRR

Thanks so much Bombshell - you were the person I was thinking might be able to answer when I posted the question!
Think I might have made my question sound like we were spending the weekend on the boat but no we are staying at their batch and then just going out during the day. - probably just for a couple of hours or so at a time.
I just wasn't even sure if he is too young to do that?
Has Ella been out just during the day for rides?
Thanks heaps for tips on life jackets - didn't even know you can get crutch ones but will definitely look into that.
Thanks heaps again.

We do alot of water skiing over summer, from when Ryan and Katelyn were 5 months old, they didn't go on the boat that young but as soon as they could fit the life jackets (the one with the bit that goes between there legs) then they were on the boat they loved it, and now we struggle to get them off the boat.
The other thing i would say is if Ollie hasn't been on a boat before maybe have a sit init first to see if he likes it, cause it took Katelyn abit to get use to the boat and it wasn't even going, but when they do they love it.
Hope this helps

ok sooooo totally different then...

Ella loves the boat. I ride in the seat looking forward with her in my arms - next to skipper....DH! She will sit facing forwards and sometimes even fall asleep in my arms being lulled by waves....she has been out most of the day on the boat at times....but then she has water in her blood!

DH puts a rope tied to her lifejacket if she is wandering around the boat while it is anchored....that way if she jumps or falls over we can get her back in easy....luckily THAT hasnt happened yet....

we have put her in cabin....and left her to sleep (she fell asleep in arms first) while we swam...we didnt go far as she wasnt asleep in her lifejacket...so in case she woke....

it can be hard if you are fishing...we had to have someone (aunty usually) hold her or sit with her in cabin while we fished....you are usally sitting in the slop so can get very unsteady on already unsteady little feet.

where abouts are you....we can give you some contacts for hire maybe...

def do not go out without a crutch jacket tho...and one with a "handle" behind their neck sounds funny but great if you have to grab them suddenly. We have a hutchwilco one with a solid chest piece.
