Topic: Kids rooms?? Posted: 27 April 2008 at 8:10pm |
So for those of you who have two or more kids, did you put them in the same room from word go??
Im getting a bit ahead of myself as im yet to have a pregnancy that lasts but I was thinking about another baby and how it would fit in around everything and whether or not we should clear out the spare room at that time for a new one or set Neoshas room up for both of them. Neosha has quite a bit of stuff so I think I would be pushed to fit everything in but if I put a baby in the spare room what am I going to do with all my computer stuff, plus it has a balcony (upstairs) so I would be worried about that too.
Do the kids generally wake eachother up and cause havoc? Would Neosha feel as though she was being biffed out of her own room?
Sorry im new to this, I was pretty much an only child

Maya has her own room, gremlins have shared from day dot but they're a special case coz they're the same age so I never had the newborn with older kid scenario. This babe is going in the spare room, which means I lose my office, I've moved my computer, desk etc. into our room and work from there now. I wouldn't make Maya share coz I personally feel that's her privilege being the eldest.
That said, I shared as a kid, first with my brother (after me) then when we were older the girls shared and the boys shared.

From recent experience, the newborn wakes the toddler at night even when they are in different rooms! And like tonight, Hannah is still awake and singing in bed, but Greer is fast asleep in her room, so Hannah would probably wake the baby. Will probably have them share at some stage.
You could put the newborn in your room for a few months until it is sleeping through the night or something - that was one of our options so we didnt lose our office.

It's a tricky thing to organise, they can wake each other up which is pretty frustrating. We tried Kryssi in with Hannah (then 3yrs) from about 4 weeks old and that worked alright except for day sleeps, Hannah would always talk to Kryssi - argh! Rooming Hannah and Briona never worked (not that we tried so young though) because Briona needs a lot of wake-up time and Hannah wakes up far too chirpy for her!!
As for the stuff, what about putting it in boxes and rotating it? Or putting some into the lounge?

We have never had to unless we have visitors, but mine will happily share a room we have a nearly 5 year old and a nearly 3 year old boy/girl they are actually sleeping in the same room tonight by choice the younger one norm falls asleep first while her brother is happily chatting away to her is very cute then he comes and tells me she is asleep and can she stay if we were to have another I would room them together and put baby into the 3rd room

Ohh ok. Yeah the baby will be in our room for a few months, first in the bassinet and then in the hammock until we have established sleeping through because its a long way upstairs to go running up and down 3 times a night, but I wasnt sure where we would set up the babies stuff (drawers and toys, cot and what not) Bruce thinks that they should have seperate rooms because some of Neoshas stuff will have to go if we merged them together which will be a bit ufair considering by the time another one does come along she will be old enough to understand. Twins would obviously go together but I dont wnt to even think about that... leave it to Emma Maybe after a couple of years they can share and just have bunk beds? Office may have to go out in the garage

Nope! mine aren't going into the same room until theya re old enough to say they want to.
But, if thats what you do from the beginning, it probably won't be an issue
I'm sure whatever you work out will work fine

if charli had've been a boy we were going to put them in the bigger room together once charli was in a big bed. we were getting bunks and then turning the small room into a playroom
but as we have 1 of each, they get their own rooms and we put up with toys everywhere around the house
