Topic: moving my business... Posted: 27 November 2006 at 10:22am |
As you now know I'm doing the big move from Sydney to Wellington. I actually have an online business here that is doing really well (I set it up so I could work while on maternity leave from my graphic design job), but all my research was done based on the Sydney market.
Can you mum's take a look and tell me if you think it's something that could take off in NZ, I'd have to promote/advertise it etc and I'd keep it going in Oz as well.

thx

I think that is a good idea. They are really neat cards and are a decent price as well.
In my limited knowledge there is nothing like that around.
I think it would be a good idea to bring your business over here.
Good luck with the move jacq

They seem really cool Do you have the option of putting your baby on the card too? or only choosing from the gallery that is there?
I do graphic design too but have not done much at all since having Ella..

yes every client so far has put their own pics on their cards.... I'm also going to add birthday party packs and having your baby pics/movies put on DVD with music etc... it is difficult juggling this and Isla but with daycare being more affordable in NZ I will look at putting her in for a few hours a week so I can concentate on it. Daycare here is $90 a day!!
where abouts did you do design meow? I'm hoping Wellington has a decent size industry?

Wellington is pretty good for graphic designers, my DH is also a designer and we considering moving there at the beginning of this year (we are central North Island) - as that's where the jobs are! All the best for the move

I'm in Wellington.. I'm not sure about the industry but think it is okay as my partner has a website business and works with graphic designers around here. I studied graphic design and had a couple of jobs but when I finished my diploma I was 3 months preg with Ella.. so didn't think I would have had much chance of getting a job with my pregnant belly.

I'd say it's one of the better places in NZ for the graphic design industry... my friend has just moved here with her boyfriend who is setting up a freelance graphic design business... he seems to think it's a good idea!

Just checked out your site and WOW!!! That is so cool.
It seems pretty original, I've not heard of anything like this before in NZ.

Esp as your business is online, you will have clients from all around NZ.. so doesn't matter too much where you base yourself!

Yeah that is great how I can keep the site going, it's just all that boring tax/business admin stuff I have to get my head around - so not into all of that!
What mags etc do most mums get/read, I need to start thinking about advertising but want to hit the right market.

Little Treasures is a big one over here.
And I don't know how many of the other ladies read the free mag "Littlies" but I know I am always browsing through the classified section

I read Littlies, and Tots to Teens.. there is also "Parenting" which is one you subscribe to, but is a good magazine.. also "Kiwi Parent". Those are all I can think of at the moment.

Littlies and Little Treasures are the only ones I know of. Littlies is regularly distributed around most preschools I think.
