Topic: Cat!! Posted: 27 November 2006 at 2:17pm |
We have a cat which comes to visit us every morning, and it stays until I leave the house and kick it out (not literally lol!). Just in the past few weeks, it seems to be there whenever I open the door.. I like having the door open to air the house out but it means the cat always comes in..
I don't mind the cat so much but the problem is that if Ella is here she won't leave the cat alone.. and she's not that gentle either, no matter how many times I tell her! I don't know what to do, it seems to have adopted us!
Also, it asks me for food all the time, and it seems like it doesn't ever go home now, it just hangs around outside our house until we come home.. so I'm wondering if I should start feeding it?? Or maybe put a notice in mailboxs around here to see if anyone owns it..

I'd try and find the owner first and if no luck then adopt it if you want it! Oh and if you do keep it go and get it checked to make sure it doesnt have any nasties!

yea definitely see if it belongs to anyone first.
lol and i know what you mean about ella not being very gentle, i can't believe our cat lets mikey do most of the things he does, he grabs (and bites) the cats tail and he grabs it's head with both hands and squeezes really hard. the cats only swiped at him a couple of times and never really hurt him so i wouldn't be too worried about that, unless it's a really grumpy cat. and maybe if ella got a little scratch it might teach her to be a bit more gentle

Umm, nope lol Ella has been scratched about 5 times and hasn't let up so far! It must be a little kid thing to terrorise cats (and animals in general lol).. it's funny though as she absolutely loves the cat, just can't quite understand "gentle" yet. He is a really nice cat though and puts up with all he gets.. must be nice or just stupid to keep coming back lol. He is currently curled up asleep on our couch.

LOL that sounds like Kelly's poor cat. The kids (especially Joey, oops) terrorise her and follow her around everywhere!! Poor cat!!

I'd see if I could track down the owners but I would not start feeding it until you are sure it is a stray cat.
Our boy Pippin is well known for having made himself at home with our landlords when they were still living in the house we are now in (it's in front of our old one) and that's just the sort of cat he is...he'll make himself at home anywhere!
Both he and Tarsia are also excellent at the big "I've never been fed" look when they are fed perfectly well at home and I've had huge issues in the past with people feeding Tarsia and she got overweight and ill.
Paris is the only one who doesn't go into other people's houses or beg for food...only because she won't go near anyone but us!
Assuming the cat is looking well cared for it's doubtful he's starving and more likely just trying it on.
If you have no luck finding the owners though...you may have a new pet!

thanks.. yeah I hadn't thought about that, it's been a while since I had cats.. I miss mine, they live at my parents house! We do give it milk sometimes, but I try to ignore it mostly so it usually gives up after a while.. but continues to stay here!

Pippin had a routine where he would come home for dinner, go out in the evening to our landlords, sleep at thier place (on thier bed no less!!!) until they kicked him out 'cos he bed hogged at which point he came yowling at our door again...little monster he is!
We had no problems with him doing that though 'cos the landlords didn't feed him. They also kept the cat flap on out only so they were able to control him coming in at least (and meant he was also trained to use it when we moved in here!)
Cats are little ratbags though!

Hahahaha I sooo know what you mean about being adopted by cute little furry faces...... we moved into our house a year ago and had two cats, after off loading one to my sister, great I'm thinking downsize, not so, had been here bout 6 months and there is this little ginger puss, would only just be weaned and it keeps coming up to our doors, sleeping under the girls playhouse. I always throw any food scraps out to the birds so we can watch them on the lawn, the kitten is out there cleaning them up. I resisted feeding it thinking it was the people behind us who just moved in and were away all day (I'm thinking how cruel to leave puss by himself all day outside so little) catch them one day....."no its not ours" ask around and nobody knows anything. Meanwhile Ashlyn has made friends with puss, you cant really give it away now can you?? It started to get really skinny and I couldn't stand it anymore so it now eats with the other cat. We have lost one of the original ones it went ferrel (sp) in the country. Only thing its not allowed to do very often is come inside too much as its a little tom. As for the girls and there new kitten they just love it and it puts up with everything they do to it and keeps coming back for more. God love it, it fights back now and then but it dosent stop the girls either.

Oh sounds like its there to stay!!! my mums cat bought home his pregnant girlfriend in which mum ended up keeping the girlfriend and 1 of the kittens but lately we have noticed something strange - the GF who is called KG (kittys girlfriend) has been comming in and acting strange and i actually thought she looked slightly different but thought i was just going nutts instead!!! then yesterday we were sitting on the couch when KG walked in along with the mysterious twin!!! who looked suspiciously familiar so all this time we were all cuddling/feeding/patting this cat that we all had suspicions about and it wasnt even KG!!!!! very freaky so mum went and asked the neighbour who previously owned KG and KG has a twin brother!!! and a sister so god knows how long we had been thinking KG was KG and all along it was possibly 3 other cats!!!! we had to laugh though!! although mum isnt so happy because it means 3 other cats have made themselves at home again!! lol

I would try to find owner too - but have known many cats would rather choose a new family for a variety of reasons and you seem to be it!!!
Im not looking forward to our animal circus and the baby = we have two dogs and three cats! Hmmm...a few scratches and mega jealousy coming up I can see!

You may surprised Bombshell...we thought we would have issues with our three cats but they are all fine with Maddie, no jealousy issues at all...unless you count not being allowed to sleep in the portacot or bouncer!!
I have a photo of me holding Maddie and Pippin curled up on my lap! Pippin has done the same thing with B holding Maddie as well.
