yep been on a cruise, but it was pre children and hubby. I went on the 2nd to last Fairstar cruise out of Australia, we went to lots of smaller islands round Isle of Pines, Vanuatu (sp) etc. Pack light comfortable clothes, and versatile, ones you can dress up with accessories for dinner and maybe a show, but also for wearing up on deck while relaxing and not in togs etc. Sarongs were fantastic, some of the islands are more modest and is customary to cover up some flesh. Make sure you have something warm for going on deck at night and 'just in case". Take an extra smaller bag that you can take when you go ashore but then can fill up with purchases when coming home.
Where abouts are you crusing? I have very fond memeroies from my trip, if you tend towards sea sickness take some medication that works for you. Also if you are on lower decks it can seem a little cramped but you will get used to it
Have a fantastic time!!!

We've done a couple of cruises now (my avatar pic is a snap from one of the deck parties on our last cruise). Where abouts are you cruising? (I am soooooooo jealous by the way!!!!!)
We tend to live in the same stuff for cruises...wrap skirts for me, shorts, more shorts, singlets, t-shirts and togs during the day for both hubby and I. Smart casual wear for dinner (trousers and nice top) and more than likely you will need an evening or cocktail dress for formal nights and hubby will need a suit. Also it's worthwhile taking a jacket 'cos depending where you are it can get cool on deck at night and early morning. Exercise gear if you plan on making use of the gym and group classes is very worthwhile too.
As kezplanet said, some islands are a little more modest so if you tend towards bikini's you will need to cover up. Your cruise shore guide should outline all that.
Is there a laundry on board? If so and if you can get at it then that means you can pack a little lighter which will help.
Wouldn't stress toooooo much about suitcase room, after all it's not like you have a 20kg limit like on flights...do prepare for plenty of shopping! Check what foreign currencies you'll need...you'll want some cash if you are going to South Pacific Islands...and the exchange rate is better off the ship than on. Everything else will go on your cruise card and there are tons of goodies to bring back!
Make sure you have plenty of room on your memory cards or take extras!!!
That's about all I can think of.
Oh - and have a blast! (and a cocktail for me!)

just remember tho thats a combined weight total of 40kg plus another 14kg for onboard luggage. If you can get hold of a couple of lighter bags (some can wegh up to 5-7kg of your allowance) you will probably get away with around 20kg for the both of you before you start spending. Also when coming back wear your heaviest clothes/shoes and carry your jacket - as it will be cooler when you land. Take small containers of shampoo, toothpaste other toileteries that you can leave in Brisbane when they are empty. If the ship doesn't have a laundry, which I suspect it should, or you want to save a bit of money, take some laundry powder and wash your own smalls and light stuff yourself, that way you only need a few days worth.
If you buy something heavy & you think might be a problem putting you over your weight, send it back to yourselves by post from the islands or brisbane, it will still be cheaper than paying $5per kg overweight. If you are taking a book/books to read, carry them on the plane as they can be surprisingly heavy.
I would soooo love to go on another cruise, we were meant to be going to fiji for a wedding but just can't do it with the money at the moment but would go there at the drop of a hat
