Topic: What do you clean your floors with? Posted: 22 October 2009 at 12:37pm |
I have tiles in my kitchen, entrance, bathrooms etc and whatever commercial cleaner I use (whether it be disinfectant, handy andy, or special floor cleaner) it always leaves streaks and you can see the mop marks. Just wondering if anyone has anything wonderful they use that doesn't leave marks?

I heard of REALLY hot water and meths...for wooden floors. Dont know about tiles as we are having the same problem. I obviously cant clean them well as even after scrubbing and mopping twice my landlord didnt think they were clean enough and we lost some of our bond

I dry after i mop to avoid streaks. I just sort of skate over the area with a towel, using my feet. Good exercise too.

Really hot water, and a dash of meths (I add a squirt of dishwashing liquid if there are obvious dirty marks, otherwise just the water and meths). Have the mop not too wet.

Yip, boiling water and a dash of meths here too! That is on both our wooden floors and our tiles and it seems fine.

Does the meths lift any marks or is it just to make the floors streak free?

I think it eliminates the streaking, but I'm not really sure if it cleans as well or not. We make up our own general cleaner for surfaces and windows too with meths, white vinegar and water and it doesn't leave streaks on the windows either.
If the meths smell is a bit much I've found adding a couple of drops of lavender is good.

Hot water and Handy Andy amonia all purpose cleaner. (Used it when I worked at Brumbys and thought it was so great I'd use it at home too!) However if your mop is too wet it can be streaky but this is only noticible on plain lino.
Also we put klear floor polish on our floors at home too (We've tiles and lino).
