we have decided we are going to send henry to a preschool 2mornings a week in order to give me a break, as im quite sick with this pregnancy.
I have already put him on the waiting list for a preschool for next year, in the area we will be living in then. However we would like him to start at one asap in our area we are living now.
I think he will love preschool but i dont even know where any are around here, the yellow pages has been no help to me what so ever and dont know how else to go about it. Idea would be appreciated Thanks

I'm not sure where you live, but I drive past many pre schools in my day to day travels, do you not have any in your immediate area that you pass regularly?

Otherwise you could try the ministry of education website, they have listings (and "Gradings")

If you go to google and type in 'google maps' and then click on the very first link, instead of typing an address or a business type in 'preschools in christchurch' and it will come up with a huge list of them and pinpointed on the map where they are.   I did this a while ago looking for one for Sam in Hamilton.

Preschools in Christchurch

That's the link to the search for preschools in Christchurch I just did.

You can do it for anything really, like takeaways, gyms, schools, churches.

i would like a smallish one. I dont really agree with supporting corporations (you know like ABC and kindercare an all those ones that own heaps of them). At this point it looks like i will just have to wait until the space becomes available at our church one. Which will be next february. Oh well not much can be done

Which area are you in?

Most DC's and preschools fill up pretty quick in ChCh but the best thing to do is ring around. i know that you don't like the ABC and Kindercare type thing but that may be your best option until your place comes up at the daycare you want.

I think pre schools and daycare are different. This is my understanding but could be comnpletely wrong.

Daycares usually run from 7.30am - 5.30pm. Are usually bigger and charge a wee bit more as have more structured programmes but not too structured.

Preschools tend to be smaller community based and usually runs 9am -3pm, charge slightly less and a wee bit more free play type structure. Kinda like kindy but for littles.

Where do you live? My daughter goes to a small pre-school privately owned and I know there are spaces freeing up in the nursery because a heap of the kids are turning 2...Only thing is, I don't know what their waiting list is like...PM me if you want details.
