Help please!
Does anyone here work temping and have kids in daycare? Im trying to work out how to do this!!
If I have a temp assignment and end up having no work in between what happens? Do I have to take the kids out of daycare? (Because of the way the subsidy works?)
I have been asked to do a temping role which could last a few weeks or a month and also has the possibility of full time work at the end...but what if it doesnt?!
My son will have to be taken out of kindy and put into daycare as I cant find someone to work around the kindy hours.
not sure sorry, was thinking about this myself cos i can make good money temping but you just never know when the work is going to be and what sort of hours. I know that preschools often wont let you just pull the kids out for a week or two here and there without charging you.
Mmm thats what Im worried about!
At least my older 2 are able to get 20 hours free until the eldest starts school... but would still have to pay for the other hours.
So frustrating. Even if I knew for sure how long the job would go for it would help!
A friend of mine does shift work and she has found someone from easy mind childcare that picks up and drops off her daughter at kindy. I did at home child care for a while and the carer gets paid extra for taking kids to and from activities. You fill out a time card for the amount of hours your child has done each week and WINZ pays up to 20hours of it if you quilify for it. Porse is another one you could try but I think it is slightly more expensive. When I was doing it varied hours from week to week really wasn't a problem.
Depending on you annual income you may still be able to get a childcare subsidy through WINZ for the hours you have to pay, but I'm not too sure on that one, it might be worth looking at their website.
I rang them and they said if I stopped working I had to ring them and they would suspend payment to the daycare... the problem on the shore is the daycares are SO full that I cant just get a space when I need it... As it is my kids would have to go to at least 2 different daycares... Grrrr
Im sure other people would just not tell WINZ but Im not sure I can do that!! Too honest for my own good sometimes!
I hope I find a full time job soon. That would solve this problem!! Im kinda seeing the temping role as a way to get my foot in the door again if you know what I mean.. have a current reference.
its sorta hard..i worked until 3 weeks ago at a preschool...the problem is winz gets behind and even if you can get in to see them adn get it sorted straight away ..every time you change hours etc or stop working the entitlement will change..argh! even with full timers I have found winz to be a pain....!
So yeah temping in terms of whether you get subsidy or not is tricky.. it depends on other income etc etc:( we also had no temping parents due to these kinds of problems but some parents who didn't work got full subsidy, some didn't etc..seemed to be individual..it doesn't exactly encourage people to work:( and yes I'm sure some don't tell WINZ but they do generally catch up with people eventually...(seen it happen:( )
id say your situation sounds like maybe you should advertise for a babysitter - make the most perhaps of kids being off for uni holis and being cheaper? or going via another mum who is at home with her kids and doesnt mind the extras and the extra money?
It might not be that the DCs are full but more like they wont touch parttime or short termers? I know ours prefer fulltime long term kiddies - and fair enough i guess
