Following on from fionas post about moving to a big bed...
i was wondering what age would you let your child sleep in the top bunk?

we have bunks here but they are not made up as bunks, rather single beds.

We put our daughter into a loft bed (bunk without the bottom bed) at around 2 years old. We had safety rails all around and she wouldn't get down without our help (so we got lots of exercise going up and down ) but she was fine and loved it.
I think it will probably depend on the child (desire), the bed (safety) and the parents (patience).
 Hope that helps.

Andrew moved up to his top bunk just after he turned 4. |

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

Hannah's in a top bunk - since a couple of months ago - with no probs.
Briona has never fallen out of bed so she would probably be ok too.

Ummm, about ten in our household. Brooke was still falling out of bed at about six then my nieces and nephews went through boughts of broken bones mostly caused by accidents on bunks (although I think wrestling often came into it).
Seriously though, about 6-8 and always with guards.

With a huge lack of space in our house when DD was on her way we had to get bunks for the boys so DS1 went into his on at 3 1/4. DH made saftey rails and we drummed it into him that he was only allowed to go up their when it's bed time, he's avery responsible kid as for DS2...........
