Topic: Life length of a high chair? Posted: 26 April 2008 at 4:16pm |
How long is a reasonable life length for a high chair would you say?
I put Jake in our mothers choice chair today and it broke! The seat part came away from the legs. The plastivc is broken and stressed all around. jake isn't a big boy by any means, he just hits 14kg dripping wet. We have had the chair, new since 2005, in use from end of 2005. He dosen't jump in it or anything, all he does is sit in it and eat his meals.
I realise it is well out of warranty, but the chair cost about $150 I think. I just think that isn't really a reasonable life span, I mean I expected it to do both my kids and Jake is almost out of it, Char still has at least another year of needign to be "restrained"...
Hmmm. Thoughts???

Can you talk with the mothers choice representative to see if they will do anything?
Perhaps after first checking to see if there was a weight limit for that particular type of chair.

my highchair was brought secondhand, i used it for both my boys then gave it to emma for one of the twins...and as far as i know it is still useable... so i dont that your highchair should have given up the ghost so soon!

I have no idea what you can do about it but I'd say that's too short. Ours went through one boy before our kiddies and only "died" about a month ago. The spring thingies on the sides of the tray have broken.

What makes me laugh about it is SIL has just lent me another high chair for Charlotte so we can all eat together, and its 47, YES 47 years old, did DH and one of his older brothers.
Jake chooses to sit at the talbe sometimes, but gets up and down all the time and usually ends up eating nothing much at all... For example,. tonight it took him an hour and a half to eat about 1/4 of his meal.... He does like his high chair.
*sigh* will give them a ring come monday

Our highchair has been used for Conor, Nyah, My god daughter and now Cooper, it's still perfect.
I don't think that there is any harm in calling the rep like someone else suggested.

I bought a Warehousey one a couple of years ago that is on shakey ground, I thought it would last a couple of kids but I might be wrong! I would expect Mothercare to be much better though

Thats not long enough surely! I would call where you bought it from and see, or call the manufacturers and see if they fix the problem....

LOL Annie, my grandparents still have the one they bought second hand to use when I came to visit as a baby, has done all the grandkids and now the great grandkids as well.
And yep, both gremlins high chairs were second hand, and still perfectly usable, and they are the cheaper Kingston Portafold model so I'd expect way more out of a $150 one!
