Topic: Would you wear black to a wedding? help! Posted: 21 February 2009 at 12:28pm |
Is it inappropriate?
I have a friend's wedding this afternoon (2pm, awesome I'm so organised). We're not hardout close but we're invited to the reception as well as the ceremony.
I've been searching through my wardrobe and at the moment I have on a black strapless top and a black skirt, it just looks like a black dress really, with a green necklace.
It looks nice but I don't know if it's weddingish enough! And wondering if it's inappropriate to wear black to a wedding!
I just don't know what to wear that fits and that I feel ok in.
It's either this or a "teachery" outfit, like a kinda floral kinda brown/blue skirt with a white singlet v-neck top. Teacher clothes, nice but not really that dressed up.
What should I do?!

I'd go with black, I think these days almost anything goes.
I have worn black to a few weddings before and just made sure I wore lots of bright accessories.

I wore a black dress to my own wedding!!! It felt better than marrying into a catholic family, 38 weeks pregnant, in red (which was the other colour the dress came in)

Everyone wears black these days, its usually the only colour dress people have in their wardrobes, and if it looks nice you'll feel more comfortable.
In the end doesn't really matter what guest wear, its pretty hard to upstage the bride.

I used to feel funny about it too but black these days means 'style' instead of 'misery' so go on, do it! I think the green necklace will probably also give it an extra dressy look.

Yep black is fine, you could jazz it up with a bright necklace or wrap or something, but i've worn black and white to a wedding and I have seen many people were black its just fine.

Yep, have worn black to 2 weddings now and looked hot both times lol
I wouldn't wear black as the bride or white to a wedding as a guest but other than that, anything goes I reckon

Rather late reply but yes, I would wear black. Last wedding I went to I wore black, as did a huge proportion of the guests
