Topic: Ayjas party, Pics and a bit of a rant.. Posted: 26 May 2007 at 8:47pm |
okay ladies, sorry , is long but needed to write it.
he he, well, today, was interesting, to say the least.
first, we went to mums place to see my grandfather from wellington and got back here at 1pm, put girls for nap, realised the place we get the helium balloons filled was closed.. closed at 1.. we had driven past it and everything., rung around found another place that was open.
mike goes of to do that, i started to ice the cake, he rings me to say he had them filled but that the lady hadn't tied the ribbon to the big elmo balloon we had bought (weeks ago online) and when he went out to the car, it came loose and flew away.. argh, the shop doesn't sell elmo balloons but gave him a neat pink butterfly one and filled it for free cos they felt bad for not tying it up properly.
meanwhile i am icing the cake, and go to move the cake board and knock over mikes large glass of coke (which he insists on leaving on the edge of the sideboard in case he needs it, ick) it of course goes onto the side of the cake i have already iced.. just a splash of it down the side, but all over the cakeboard, the sideboard, under the fish tank down the cupboards and onto the floor. I say a few million choice words and come very close to throwing that darn glass into the sink! lol, but manage to clean it up and keep going, thinking ok, how can this day get any worse.. please don't let anything else happen.
So, that's ok, finish decorating the cake.. (elmo turned out pink.. lol) get girls outta bed go to mcd's to find that firstly the other parties in the party rooms aren't finished, and secondly once they have finished - a while after 4pm, they have no record of us booking, even though we went in, personally, months ago and booked it, and SAW the lady write it into the book with contact details and all that, I had asked at the time if i needed to ring and confirm and she said not unless the number of kids changes.. so of course i didn't, so anyway, mikes temper rising at that point, i go off to take the kids to play cos i know if he's rude i'm less embarassed if i'm not there with him when he says whatever it is he says.
he he, meanwhile i have now found out from mike that they asked him "are you SURE you booked, are you sure you rung here.. and not rangitikei st.." he replies with no, we came in.. to be met with the reply of "are you sure, " he he, aparently he told them to put it bluntly yes he was sure because he hates their food (am putting it far more politely than he said it) and service there but it is larger than rangitikei st and has separate party rooms which is the reason we chose there. on a side note, ha ha, his mum told him not to be so rude!! he he he.
in the end, we got ourselves into the smaller party room.. kinda just went in there and said we were going in there., which had not been cleaned, my mum grabbed an empty rubbish bag and cleaned the stuff away and some other mcd's person very quickly swept the floor. which was still messy afterwards.. not nice, but better than standing out there for ages looking like normans getting nowhere. We had our own elmo tablecloth anyway so chucked that over the tables, one of the workers who had been trying to sort out the mess decided to stay and be our hostess despite having been up since 2 this morning.. and was helpful and cheery and sorted stuff out for us so that was nice at least.. poor girl.
But whoa, how bad was that.. that's 2 times it has happened to us now there, same thing happened last time with paris's 2nd birthday, we booked the large room, months in advance, someone else double booked over us after that for a time about 45 mins after ours, we turned up with heaps of kids and adults then and had them tell us we hadn't booked the large room, maybe we had booked the small one.. again, we had physically gone in, met with the duty manager and SEEN her write in the details in the LARGE ROOM column. ggrr, we told them why on earth would we book a small room for the amount of people we had coming?! with that time we got ushered thru quickly, party started even though lots of people hadn't arrived yet, we had barely blown out the candles of the cake when they ushered us out into the playground and told us they "real" people who had booked were due to arrive and they needed to set up.
moral of the story... Do not have parties at that mcd's unless you are sure as heck that you have booked, double booked and booked again, and you have specified each time which room you want. GGGGRRRR.
stupid McDonalds... makes all the stress of having a home party pale in comparisson!

Here's the pics from the party, of ayja's cake, blowing out candles cutting cake and being cheeky while eating her icecream.
Aw such a little girl, such a big chair and table.
Elmo cake
blowing candles...excuse my big nose in the pic
Cutting the cake
lol, cheeky girl with ice-cream..
all up though was good despite all the dramas, kids had fun and that's what counts and the girl that stayed to be our hostess was wonderful with the kids.

Janine - have you tried writing and officially complaining? cause that kinda service sucks....also, make out that the girls were really upset, might get some kinda compensation. Sorry to hear that the plans were not so good, but hope you all had a nice birthday for Ayja anyway!

Janine write to Jack Cranston (he is the owner of McDonalds on the Square) and write a full letter about Paris's birthday and this one and how you have just told about 100 woman of the service you received at that they will probably never use McDonalds as a place to have a birthday party. He'll propbably shower you with stuff from there.

Yes Jack is very good to talk to. I used to work in the upstairs of McDonalds and he is quite talk-to-able (lol English doesn't have enough words sometimes )
Was a pretty good party once it got underway Janine. It's such a pain that you got stuffed around AGAIN after being so careful! I didn't think Elmo was overly pink, still pretty clear who he was anyway!
I still can't get over how your girls look that beautiful even in real life - and I know that sounds super-silly!

I had Sean (preteen)'s 2nd birthday at McD's (Lincoln Rd, not Palmy) and it was AWFUL. I'd booked it ages in advance, they didn't have a seperate party room and hadn't bothered to clear enough space. The host was average. It was also memorable for Sean's first real tantrum. The only bonus was that it was their floor that the fanta was dropped on. The Elmo cake looks fab Janine - you're amazing! And it looks like Ayja had an absolute ball regardless of the dramas behind the scenes (and I agree, put your complaint in writing to the Head office).

I think Jack has sold up my bro work's at the one in the plaza and they have new owner's. I am pretty sure the bought both, but my bro said that the new owner is really great so I would write to him and tell them cause I bet they will be peeved off with that kinda service.

I know that Jack C used to own both the Plaza and The Square McD's so it sounds right that he would have sold both.
