Hi Denise, firstly how old is Ava (love the name by the way) and do you think she would wake in the night wanting to feed?
Sophia has between 80 and 125mls during her dreemfeed and would wake up hungry. Do you know how you would ween her off?

She is just over 4 months. She wakes once during the night between 4-5am for a feed. We've only been doing the dreamfeed for about a week because we changed her bedtime to 7pm. Prior to that she was up until 9.30pm and she had her last feed then. She was drinking more (because she was awake!) but still waking between 4-5am.
Not sure how i would wean her - offer her less or just stop it?!

the dreamfeed never worked for us, but the advice i read was to move the timing of the dreamfeed earlier by 15mins each day, so it eventually joins up with her last feed of the day. you might find that her 4-5am feed changes as well, but hopefully you'd still only be up once!
edit to make sense

i reakon keep it til she drops it or you start solids. i tries dropping it with ryan and it was a mess. he'd go to bed at 7pm have a bottle at 9 and then sleep til 7am. then when i dropped it completely he started waking at 4 5 6 7 etc. was not good for my sleep, so unless your keen on re doing a whole routine again. dont do it.
you could just lesson the amount your giving her at dreemfeed.

The dream feed worked wonders for us so if it was me in your situation I would keep going considering her age....maybe think of dropping it when she starts solids. DH and I used to stay up til 10.30ish then dream feed and head to bed ourselves. It was a good way to spend some quality time together.
Blondy's advice for dropping it though is how we eventually dropped it and it worked a charm.
Good luck! Hope you are getting good sleep soon.

If you want to drop it give her the dream feed 15 mins early and give her 25 ml less and add that 25 ml to her first feed of the morningand to that for two nights...do the same again, give her 25 mils less and move it another 15 mins early and again add the 25 ml to her second feed of the day, do this again for the next two days. So on the sixth day feed 15 mins early and take another 25 mls off and add to the third feed of the day and so on and so forth.
BTW when Sophia wakes at 4 or 5 I give her a cuddle and put her back down and she will go back to sleep till 7. She goes to bed at 7 and has her dreem feed at 11 (is now drinking 150mls) and does not wake till 7am.
Good luck!!!

Hope this is not a silly question.... but do you burp babies after the dreamfeed, before putting them back to bed? I read in a book somewhere that it wasn't necessary and just to put them back to bed - but I am unsure whether I like that idea. Due in a few days so just planning ahead!

I found with Dominic that he still needed a feed during the night till he was 6 months old and we weaned him off it the same way Blondy suggested, worked great!
I never found a need to burp Dom after his dream feed but he didn't have any colic or wind problems, every baby is so different though.

We did burp Joy after a dream feed. Just probably a little more gentler than other feeds. Dh would sometimes just put her over his shoulder and kind of give her a few pats on the back...this would also help to settle her again.

Hi,
My boys were taking up to 200mls when we first started the dream feed at 3 1/2mnts old, now it is anywhere between 100 - 150mls.
I had the same experience as sarahbetha, a few nights ago we decided to trial not having a dream feed and it was good and bad. Good because we found out Eli can now sleep right through from 8pm - 7.30am, BUT the bad news was Jacob can't. Jacob woke at 12,2,4,6 (each time I rewrapped & put his dummy in, they don't fall to sleep with their dummy's) and we finally fed at 7.30. Jacob usually wakes at 6am for his dummy & I feed him at 7.30am.
Plunket told me that when they start taking less at the dream feed to just stop, that's their way of saying they don't need it. Eli was down to about 80-100 when he slept fine without it and Jacob is still taking approx 150mls.
If your bubs is taking alot less than usuall then I suggest preparing for a bad night and give it a go in the weekend, best to go to sleep straight after the 7pm feed just incase it's a bad one. Or be prepared to wake & feed her during the night.
Also, I was recommended to burb them after their dream feed.
Good luck.

We put Sophia over our shoulder and snuggle her for a few mins (with pats on the back) and she brings wind up. She has reflux so we need to get the wind up before she is horizontal

We kept up a dreamfeed FOREVER!!! ha ha. Sometimes still did it when Ella was 12months old.....usually after she'd gotten sick and needed to catch up on food.
We also had to burp her as she has terrible time with wind/sore tummy pains.
I'd say if your baby sleeps just fine without having to burp - lucky you.....but if you find they wake in the night screaming.....perhaps they have trapped wind.
Just do what works for you, if baby is ready to drop the feed and sleep right thru....fabulous....if not don't worry about continuing to dream feed. Its whatever works for you....your household....and for your baby.
