Topic: Teeth - How late can they come through? Posted: 29 March 2007 at 10:31am |
I'm not worried about it at the moment as Caitlin is only 8 months old. But I was just wondering how late can it be before the first teeth appear? a year?
She originally started teething around 4 months old, red cheeks and heaps of drooling, but she seems to have stopped teething now She's not mouthing things as much as she used to and the same with the drooling (I used to have to put a bib on her continuously!) but now nothing.

My friends little girl didn't get her first tooth till around the age of 1. I was told that the later they come the straighter they are, and less likely to need any help with straightening when older ( with the help of braces).

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

I think with some babies it can be a year before they start coming through. Don't worry Toni, she'll get the little chompers in her own good time At least she can't bite you yet OUCH!

ayja got her first ones at 14 mths, despite being a dribbly chewy baby that everyone said "oh teething huh?", paris got hers at 11 months, ayja is only just getting her eye teeth etc, till now she only had 2 bottom ones and 4 top ones, now all the horrible things are coming through at the same time, all her molars are pushing through and boy is she a ratty little miss right now.

Plunket said to us it can take up to 3 years for all of their teeth to come through......so I think when they are ready they will appear.

She might be one of those kids who doesn't get any teeth
Just kidding, I remember wondering the same thing. Ella had her first and second come within days of each other, first one was at 10 months

Yeah, once they start they'll just keep coming!!
And it's pretty common for them to show teething signs and then for nothing to happen for months and months. Just to confuse poor mothers I think!

They say to check it with the Doc if they haven't arrived by the first birthday. I know a little girl who didn't get any until 15mos, no probs. My girls started cutting teeth at 8mos.

Isla has 2 teeth at the bottom and I think shes getting another at the top, and shes only just 5 months old. I think the thing about having straight teeth if they get them later on must be right, cos you can already see that ones of hers is crooked! Her Dad got his at this age, and his are so crooked he calls them "sheep teeth"!!

My grandma tells everyone Mum didn't get her first tooth till she was gone one. Maya was an early teether, got her first one at 5 mths and had a full set including 2 yr molars by 18 mths, but no signs of teeth in the gremlins (I don't count dribbling coz they are dribbly drooly babies all the time )

Good grief I hope it's not true about earlier teeth more likely to be crooked...I don't want to have to fork out for braces, they're so expensive! Alyssa has 6 teeth through now (2 bottom and 4 top)...I would rather she was a late teether cause I'm still breastfeeding and it hurts sometimes!

I've never heard that before. I cut my first two teeth at 3 1/2 months and DH started at 8mos... by 12 months of age I had 8 teeth through and DH had 4 LOL. But I have fairly straight teeth (although I have one which is rotated about 90 deg - weird) and DH has slightly crooked. Neither of us had/needed braces.

Lockie got his first tooth at 11 months old, then he cut 1 a week for four weeks. I was beginning to wonder if he was ever going to get any.
