following on from jezsika's thread re bottles and the point she made about dads bonding with babies i wondered what everyone else did so their partners felt a connection.

in our house i made it hubbys job to bath and do the bed time thing. not only does it help hubby unwind and relax but gabriel really enjoys it.   This includes reading his bedtime story too, and lately making the milo together has become part of the routine too.

i think in the beginning it can be hard for the dad to feel connected and any thing we can do to help them is good.

so who has any other cool bonding stories.??

Ummm... Nathaniel supported me in labour and cut the cord, he found that pretty amazing... as far as bonding at home went, he bathed Josiah occasionally (work commitments meant it couldn't be every night) and it was his job to burp Josiah after every feed that he was home for, except during the night.

As Josiah got bigger, Nat was more involved as he was able to be home more: changing and dressing him, getting him ready for feeds, that sort of thing.

my hubby got to deliver our second baby, which was neat for him, because after being so active with bottle feeding our first, and i was breast feeding my second he didnt get that same time with her.
he is home for a good part of the day with his work hours so is also very active in their everyday life. he has his special times where he takes them swimming or to playgound.....
he also does alot of the bathing and bedtime things too....

Pretty much every night since I stopped breastfeeding, my partner has given Ella her milk before bed, he loves that snuggle time If he is home, he will give her a bath and look after her while I cook dinner.. then puts her to bed and reads a book afterwards.

One thing I've found helps is when they both go out together to the park or somewhere else, just the two of them. Hard for me to let go but I know I must

It has been better since Ella started doing things, after a few months.. he didn't bond that well when she was small as she didn't do much. But I have asked around and found that lots of dads found this (and these bubs were a mixture of breastfed and bottlefed).

One example of how much he loves her is that when she was a few months ol, we had a hammock which hung in our lounge, and he went out and bought bulldog clips which attached to elastic so that Ella could bat at different things during the day, we changed them every few days..

Darron was pretty involved from the start to the point where there was nothing that I did that he didnt do. Mainly because we bottle feed from day one and his work hours helped because he was home in the mornings. We were taking turns getting up at night but both found this time really hard and lonely so made a decision that we would both get up together so we had some really nice middle of the night moments with our wee boy while it felt like the rest of the world was asleep. He now has Kobe two mornings a week by himself before he takes him to preschool while I work part time which is thier bonding time.

lewis is still in japan, and has only seen Taine for one week. He comes back in April so we have a few plans to let him bond with the boys. Jake and I take swimming classes, but when Lewis gets back, he'll start taking Taine in the toddler pool while we swim. When Taine is old enough, they'll have swimming lessons too. We go to the park a lot as a family and Lewis and jake play there. lewis plays differntly han me - a lot more physical and I've found that is a great bonding thing as it is something ONLY daddy does.
apart from that, bedime stories are good. Lewis liked to take jake out with his friends and they had "man-time" together playing rugby and touch (all this when Jake was 6 months old!!)

Atish is very hands on....he changes her, looks after her while I cook. He use to put her down for her nap when she was really tiny...and plays with her all the time. Zaara loves her daddy as he makes funny faces at her and talks to her differently then I do .....every times she sees him she gives him this big smile and if he makes funny faces at her she laughs out loud.....she also watches rugby, soccer and cricket with daddy while he explains to her what is going on......like she understands it......but she sits on his lap and watches tv for 20 min to 30 mon ....untill she gets bored with it!!!

Yeah Dan gets Xanda up in the mornings and they watch cartoons together for about 30min before I get out of bed. Kind of worries me how much Xanda likes television.
