Topic: Bassinet to Cot, What age? Posted: 02 April 2006 at 8:46am |
What age is it best to go from bassinet to Cot?
Our little girl is 7 weeks old, and she keeps hitting her hands on the side of the bassinet and wakes her up, Should we put her into her cot or leave her in the bassinet? Please help as we are first time mum and dads.

When they are banging themselves and waking, it is a good time to move them, however, have you tried wrapping her?
I don't think there is any set "age". We had jakes bassinette in his cot for a while so the transition wasn't a problem. We shifted him when he stated banging his arms on the sides, about 3 months I think he was?

i moved my first daughter into a cot at around 3 months, she was a really quiet and non wriggly sleeper, but we moved our second daughter into a cot at 6 weeks(ish) because she was really wriggly and kept waking herself banging her arms. she was also slightly taller, and bigger at the stage (first baby was only 7lb 2oz at nearly 5 weeks as opposed to second that was born 7lb 3 oz!)

tigernz, I would imagine it is time now however if you aren't wrapping I would try that. Some babies don't like being wrapped though.
I put Samuel in at 4 months which personally was so sad because it was like he wasn't a little baby anymore in the big bed
If she is a real wriggler maybe you could get a wedge or a safety sleep to keep her put. I even now at 12 months often prop Sam with a teddy to keep him rolling onto the side so as to avoid waking.

We had to move Joey at 5 weeks because he just got too big. We had him sleepiong in the carry cot off the pram and before I left him sleeping in the big cot I transitioned him by laying th carry cot IN the big cot to let him sleep for a few days, then the suroundings weren't too weird and he had no probs... I think I found it harder than he did

Alex went into his cot straight away as soon as we got home from the hospital. I have an american sized cot that has a "bassinette" height & a "cot" height so I just put it on the highest setting and kept him well wrapped.

Hannah went into cot at about 2 months ish, cos she was getting too big. But if we werent given a bassinett to borrow, she would have gone straight into the cot from day one

Thanks all, We put her into the cot, (that has 2 levels) last night, Once she went down, was all ok. Just didn't like going down when was awake we had to let her sleep in our arms, don't know if it was because of her reflux or the new bed.
