Topic: Feeling sorry for myself Posted: 01 March 2007 at 10:50am |
I need a whinge and I've got no one to listen!
I feel like I'm stuck in a bit of a rut.
I'm a horrible Mum at the moment. Tired and grumpy and not much fun.
I spend most of my days growling and poor Ella is getting picked on for any little thing she does.
I hate being this way, I just find myself longing for a break.
Its not like my life is that hard, I have nothing to complain about really but I just can't seem to snap out of this mood.
I have no motivation or energy, I wake up full of good intentions about what I want to do but then I fall into the same routine of tiredness and growling and hating myself for being this way.
I really want to change this because my kids deserve better and Hubby too. I just wish I had more energy!

I've been there too, it's horrible when you don't have any energy or motivation Often I try to get some excitement in my/the kids' lives to brighten things up. Even just going to the park (and mostly sitting down) can help. It uses a lot of energy but if you time it right, the kids will go to bed straight after and you can relax too. Even a grocery shop will do it for me sometimes lol... just a break in the everyday droll.
The best thing I can do for myself when I feel like that is to get someone around for some adult company, even if we're both looking after our kids at the same time it does feel heaps better, like we're supported somehow. Talking it over with DH sometimes helps me on that score too.
And don't underestimate the power of home baking!

been there too. and it is horrible...somtimes you just have to say - bugger it, lets go out....leave the house work, the dishes, washing, beds..and get out. sometimes i would just take the kids to the warehouse and wander the aisles.
of course then there is the other way - i find that if my house gets very messy that just brings me down.
and then theres the computer... it saps energy and motivation and even tho it is a godsend on some days i also believe that it contributes to my yuck days...
hope you feel better soon...

sometimes just leaving everything (as above) and getting out helps...warehouse / toy world is a good idea, as is a mcdonalds playground or similar etc...you sit and relax and leave them to it...Let ella run herself ragged instead of getting on your wick...or set her up a play date with a friend perhaps??? away from your home!!!
BTW you sound like you need a hug - so HUGS!!!!!

Hugs to you Mel!!
I've been there before! ( i actually think I'm a bit there at the mo, but thats due to my mother in law. But thats a whole seperate story in itself..)
Talking to hubby really helps me. Do you have a friend or family member that could look after the kids for a day so you can just go and be by yourself to do something just for you! Remember that it's just as important to look after number 1 (and you can do it without feeling guilty)

been there too! I found organising a "me day"reall yhelps - well, less of a day, more of a morning - I just drive off by myself and have a break - although must admit that it's taken me a while to stop feeling guilty about leaving the kids! But thursdays are always my bad days - if you can pinpoint when your bad days are, you can sometimes work around it. for example, Lew works until 3am Thurs. morning, then gets up at 12, leave for work at 3, so it's me for the morning and night shift - i've decided thursdays is a "do nothing" day. we do the washing ansd thats about it - i don't even think the beds were made this morning. I feel better about the little things I HAVE done today, rather than feeling crappy about all the things I didn't get done. We need to have at least one OFF day and give ourselves permission to do it!

Great suggestions. I agree with Deb wholeheartedly - sometimes the computer is what is dragging me down... getting out and getting some fresh air makes me feel suprisingly good.
Hope you manage to find some energy somewhere!!

Its so great being able to come here for support, there are always so many others who get it and are so helpful and understanding.
Jess, I'll definitely be taking you up on that suggestion when you're next up here We had such a great time with you and wee Ella G. And yup, Anna is just the best ever! And she brought me chocolate!!!
Thanks Everyone.
