Hi all,

DH, Arianne and I are finally moving into our own home. We have the phone and internet sorted, but what I need help with is to find the best power company for the North Shore area of Auckland.

If anyone can help me choose a fair and honest power company it will really help my search.

I love getting references from peoples experiences helps me decide better.

Thanks everyone

Hi

We are in West Auckland and we are with Mercury. The best part is they read your meter every month so no massive bills because the underestimate.
We use and oil heater at night for dd and fan heater at night for about 5-6 hours during winter our biggest bil has been $26o.

AriannesMum, I don't know any fair & honest power companies, hee hee, but we use Mercury Energy & live central Auckland.

I looked in to changing a couple of years ago but decided no one else was really any better.

We get $320 (i think) back yearly as a dividend from them, & pretty sure they cover the NS.

I don't watch power usage, & know I should. I am a stay at hope mum of 3 who uses the dryer when needed, heaters in the kids rooms, heaps of tech stuff & DH has so many computer etc on, so we probably waste a lot, BUT I do like watching tv in the dark, oh ok the heater maybe on sometimes but we don't have a fire.

I think it is a good idea to check out all companies that can supply power to you & see that they can offer. Maybe list what you find as it may help others

Firstly, congrats for moving into your own home! You guys must be so excited I'm not on the North Shore, or the north island for that matter, but I switched to Powershop.co.nz back in April and I think it's much cheaper. Our first bill (april) was $50.00 cheaper than what it was same time last year and that was without a baby and being at work all day. Our biggest bill with them was July's one and it was $320. Admittedly(sp) it's been the first winter with a baby, so I've been home alot more and that's an oil column heater in Rhys' room (pretty much 24/7), convection heater in our lounge, dryer going when I feel like it, and also a heatpump going in the other end of the house, so I think it's very reasonable. The website got alot of info on it, if you want to know more.
Best of luck with the move!

We're with Mercury on the Shore. I don't know if they're more honest but they do actual readings every month and they're still the cheapest for us.

But you don't get rebates on the shore as the line companies are different from central and south Auckland. It's a bummer but hey, you'll make up for it in cheap water rates since we don't pay for waste and usage split out like the others do (yet).

Yeah but it's just for usage (?) I think not waste - or the other way around so it's no where near what you guys in other parts of Aucklandy pay.

Of course once we all become one big happy city (sarcasm) they'll privatise our water too and then we'll be hit like the rest of you

we're on the shore and we are just switching from Genesis to Mercury. main reason is that Genesis was going to change our metor over to the new smartsave metor (sends the reading through automatically), but I have not heard very good things about it from people at work who switched to it so we decided to change to Mercury.

We've been with Genesis and Contact on the Shore - both about the same pricewise. Genesis seemed cheaper monthly until we left them and were hit with a $600 bill because they hadnt been checking the meter, just estimating.

Now thinking I should check Mercury
