A couple of days ago our doc gave Elle a script for antibiotics as she had an inflamed ear. He told us to hold the script for 48 hours and see how she is doing. She doesn't seem worse but her ear is clearly still bothering her. She keeps tilting her head to the side and holding it. She also has heaps less energy than normal...sitting on the floor watching TV rather than running around full speed. Her nose is still really congested.

She feels quite hot on and off but is coping pretty well.

Should I give her the antibiotics or wait longer to see if she gets any worse?

personally I would give them to her. We had a similar issue with taine but as wqhen he gets sick he tends to get asthma as well, i just ignored the doctor and gave the antibiotics straight away.,

I'd give them to her. Anything in the ear can be quite painful and you wouldn't want it to get worse.

I would give them to her too. After all the troubles we had with Emma Rose's ears, ear infections, delayed hearing, grommets, etc., I don't mess around when it comes to ears any more. Ear infections can lead to other things and I personally feel it's best to clear them up as quickly as possible, then go back to the doctor to make certain they're healed (because sometimes those infections can linger even if the child appears well).

I had an ear infection but didn't realise cos it wasn't painful by the time I went to the docs it had got really bad and my ear drum is now damaged cos of it and I am left with tinitus (ringing in the ear) is most bloody annoying. So I say give her the antibiotics.

I agree, its been a couple of days and it hasn't gone yet. I wouldn't wait any longer, it's not worth the potential issues. Hope they kick in quickly and she is running circles around you soon

They say 85% of ear infections clear up on their own but I think I might give the antibiotics in this case, esp with my sisters funeral to organise for Thurs and all that entails.

Yeah I'd give them too. Gina had a ear infection a few weeks back and we were advised to wait until the next morning after seeing the GP in the afternoon to start. I couldn't wait as Gina was clearly in pain and started them as soon as we got home - the effect was almost immediate and she slept that afternoon for 5 hours! She had really suffered for a couple of nights beforehand (before we took her to the GP) so I figured why wait.

I wouldn't mess with ear infections and i'd be getting them for her to take. Ear infections ain't nice, Andrew is on his second lot of grommets for ear infections and he is only 3 & 1/2.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

She seems pretty happy but we've started them anyway as she is tilting her head and playing with the ear.

Thanks!

The ABs won't settle any pain issues but since the ear seems to be still causing irritation, yea I say do it to be on the safe side.
