Topic: What have I done? Posted: 05 June 2007 at 9:26am |
A friend of mine is sick and her DH rang me this morning to see if I could look after their girls today, since he has to go to work. As the countdown ticks on (they're coming in the next 20mins), I'm sitting here thinking 'what have I done'? Their girls are 4 1/2 and 21mos - a year older than my eldest, and a month younger than my second. I'll have 5 under 5
Now I am DEFINITELY coming to Maccas lol

youll be fine. We often have a housefull here. Go for a walk to the park or somewhere neutral teritory thats the only advice i can give, as we sometimes have squabbles over "my" toys. Good luck and enjoy your day

Yes Lizzle I remember that story, I was thinking of your day-before post this morning actually lol (the what to do with them question). AlyAyde, I remembered what you had to say about territorial toys. It started this afternoon and I realised exactly what was going on, thanks to the heads-up. BS I'd like you to know that a 5yo, 3yo, 2yo and baby - who have all been brought up by the same parents - is a whole lot different from a 4yo, 3yo, two 22mos, and a 5mo!
Actually we had a lot of fun. The older two girls usually play together nicely, just have some difficulties when both of them want to organise the same activity and have the other on board. I heard Abbie say to Hannah "My mum says when you have visitors, you say to your visitor what would you like to play with?" Haha was funny to hear her instruct Hannah on how to look after her! When it came to sharing groups of little people or doll blankets, I put them all in a row, got Abbie to choose one first (since she was our visitor), Hannah second, Abbie third... and they both seemed to like that arrangement. Keeping in mind for next time...
Briona and Lizette were harder to look after because neither of them understands sharing. But the best thing was they both had a sleep in the afternoon so they were up and about at different times for a bit there. A bit less pressure.
We went to McD's in the morning too, met up with Stacey (Kebakat) and Mummy_Becks. I got them some chips and nuggets but didn't get them a drink cause I didn't want to buy 5 lol! Usually if it's just me and my girls we share but I wasn't going to initiate that arrangement today.
In the end the girls were picked up at 6.15. It was going to be about 5.10pm but the girls' dad had some difficulty leaving work and then the supermarket on time. No problems, I just gave them some fruit bread to eat (they loved it at lunchtime and asked for more!)
I didn't initiate much today at all (except for dispute settlements ), just pottered around the lounge and kept my ears and eyes open, the girls slotted in quite nicely and I wasn't "bored".... I bet that sounds silly but even though I didn't do much today I needed to keep my mind focussed a whole lot more than usual!
Oh - and thanks for asking BS [ETA 'and James']... even though I've gone a bit waffly lol, but I am definitely going to bed now
