Topic: When do they get excited..... Posted: 22 July 2008 at 7:52pm |
.....about Christmas?
I love Christmas and while watching Mickey Mouse tonight I was wondering if Michaela would get excited about it this year.
When my niece was 3 1/2 she stayed overnight with DH and I on Christmas eve and was really excited about it. Not as excited as me though I woke up early on Christmas day and ended up waking her too and until she'd had her morning bottle she wasn't interested in the overflowing santa sack... she even told me in a sleep voice that I could have it Once she woke up properly though she was back to being excited.
Her brother who was 2 at the time stayed with his mum on Christmas eve and came over to ours in the morning and was happy to open pressies for a short while but then got sick of it all and just wanted to play with his new toys.
Michaela will be about 2 yrs 8 mo at Christmastime this year. I sure hope she'll be old enough to be excited (and old enough to leave my christmas decorations on the tree this year too).

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

Yep I reckon she will - anytime from 2 1/2 years. Hannah was definitely into it last Christmas and the one before (at 4yo and 3yo), Briona (2 1/2 last Christmas) was just into it but hard to tell how much of that was from Hannah. I think I was still more excited than them though - like you! I start counting down a couple of months in advance but they really only can see a couple of weeks ahead.

She also discovered that Santa comes at Christmas which she wasnt to impressed with - She really doent like santa!

Michaela was 1 year 9 mo last year. She had a great time, especially the gift unwrapping and playing with her new toys, but she didn't understand it and so didn't get as excited and there was no lead-up excitement (unless you count pulling decorations off my Christmas tree several times a day exciting).

Last year our son was excited about presents and getting to see his cousins.
This year he will be 2 & 1/2 and I hope he gets a better understanding of it....and excited about it.
Gosh not long to go now.....We are week 30 now so what 22 weeks to go

This last Christmas was the first time she was really really into it- so 3 1/2. The one before she was kind of excited but nothing compared to last Christmas. It was so cool! Can't wait for this one!

Seb will be 28 months at christmas time, but we're not the hugest fans of christmas - either the commercial side, or the christian side, so it is more about the Summer solstice and celebrating the season... I don't know how he'll react at his grandmother's on xmas day though, as she tends to make a big deal of it. He might be just a bit too young.
Edited due to dumb mistake

I love everything about christmas (apart from the parting with money )
I love the tree thats been lit up for as long as i can remember on Stockade hill, i love the way people say "merry christmas " to complete strangers , and usually mean it , i love watching C open her presents and get excited , i love seeing family i dont usually see, and getting presents, i just love the whole christmas atmosphere, tho i DO sometimes get bored on christmas day , i never feel like i can ring anyone cos its "family time" tho usually I go over to my best mates house after doing the family duties
Will be our first christmas in our new house this year, my first away from family ....the first without my MUM !!! which means i wont get a stocking this year !!!
(yes , i still get a stocking...least, i did )

Zaara was 2 years and 2 month last Xmas/New Year. We dont do xmas but celebrate New Years.
I remember she helped me decorate the tree at home and she was sooo good being gentle and not pulling all the decor out!! And she was also very excited about the boxes under the tree...she kept saying "For Zaara Mumma?"
She would also sing Xmas songs at home (from Mickey mouse cartoons and Day Care). And when she finally opened all her gifts she was soooo excited!!
The New year before that she was 1 year 2 Months...wasnt talking much but every time we opened her gifts she would say "WOW" "WOW" "pretty"...he he ha ha
I think your DD will def enjoy it!! just make big deal...involve her with card making, tree decor etc..and she will LOVE IT!!
