Hello

Just wondering if there are any other knitters on here! I'm after some ideas for really great patterns for knitting for babies. There's obviously heaps of stuff on the net but it's hard to know what is going to turn out well unless you actually make it and I've had a few 'duds' recently.

Also, does anyone have ideas for creative things to knit other than just hats, jumpers and booties?

Thanks!

Claire

Are you planning on using disposable or cloth nappies? As I know a few patterns for soakers, longies etc to go over cloth

there is a web site where there are free knitting patterns for over naps and for other knitted items...I am sure Nicky or someone can point you in right direction...I stumbled across them ages ago by accident but not being a knitter i didnt save them....

maybe type in free kkitting patterns and see what comes up in a search?

Hey!! I'm a knitter :)

You REALLY have to join Ravelry - it is awesome. There is a pattern database on there, so you basically search for 'baby jersey' and it'll bring up a trillion patterns. You can click on patterns and find out which book they are in... or you can look for the patterns with 'free' next to them, and that'll let you download the pattern for free.

BUT it gets even more exciting... they have a photo gallery under each pattern so you can see how others have knitted it up.

Oh... I'm in love! So in love. It's the best thing since sliced bread.

Disclaimer: Do NOT sign up to Ravelry if you are on dial up... well... not unless you want to spend hours at your computer waiting for photos to load!

Other than that, I'm not terribly into knitted toys so can't help you there (other than say there are tonnes of patterns on Ravelry!) but I'm knitting the world's cutest newborn wrap cardi at the moment. It's teeny!

Hi Claire - don't know where you're living but if you're in Auckland, a trip to Wild n Woolly in Devonport is a good idea - they often have great free patterns if you buy the wool and they have lots of made up items for inspiration! I'm a wool-holic and go through phases of loving knitting and doing it compulsively and then doing nothing for months! My latest excuse is that DH lost my bamboo needles so I can't make the jersey I was going to make.
