Topic: university papers... Posted: 23 June 2008 at 9:08pm |
Im wanting to hear youR experiences on studying extramurally....
Was it hard doing it extramurally??
Is it hard in general to get a paper finished??
for those who have done health science papers...were they hard?
Just want some heads ups on what im in for - for my last 2 studies they were all done as asignments rather than papers (eg: it was architecture so i had to design houses etc as asignments) so im figuring this is going to be different???
IM SOOOO LOOKING FORWARD TO IT THOUGH

Well I have done a lot of extramural study. Best advice, kepp on top of the work and make sure you do read the readings.
I don't think it is hard to finish the papers so long as you keep doing the work each week. PC's usually include a timetable of what you should do each week, so follow that. WebCT is helpful (as I know you are studying through Massey) for asking silly questions as well.
I might be able to pick your brain with my health and housing paper as it is all about houses and you might have the books... will PM you.

I have done Human Development 1 already so you can ask about the theorists if you get stuck. I know them now and have to work with them again in Human Development 2.

In the past I've found it difficult to stay on track studying extra-murally. I'm doing 2 internal papers but my chem is extra-mural so I'll be looking out for any tips and tricks too!

I'll be doing it either this semester (probably not though) but definitely next year. *yikes*
I spend like 2-3hrs in the evening reading novels so if I convert that into study time I should be fine.

you really just have to stay on top of the reading, make a list of when all your assignments are coming up for the semester so you know where your priorities are - do the research for them in advance if you can. Definitely make the most of WebCT and also check out if there is anyone else in your area doing it as a 'study group' can be really helpful as well to keep up your motivation levels.
it can be easy to fall behind, so make sure you set out times that will be just for study and try to stick to them - I've spent the last two years studying extramurally from Massey and completed my degree in November, and I think I prefer extramural but mostly because I was always bad at going to class anyways
