Alex is nearly seven months old and prefers solids over milk. I have been trying to keep him on 4 x feeds of 200mls but it is a struggle to get the 4 feeds into him. Looking at the formuala tin it recommends he should be having between 4/5 feeds a day so I am concerned if I reduce one of the feeds he will be down to 3 feeds.

I have learn't that if he doesn't want his milk then he just wont have it and if I persist it just turns into a hugh drama.

What are others doing as far as feeds go?

I have been wondering this myself! Hannah is 8 months and has three solids and four breastfeeds. First thing in the morning she has bf then breakfast, but the other 2 meals she has her solids first.

Sorry thats not really much help is it!

I am having the same trouble with Zac. He is not interested in being breast fed. He has a good feed when he wakes up in the morning and before going to bed and I try to feed him before each solid feed but he will only take a little bit. I am also trying to wean him and he will only take 120ml of formula once a day...or if that!

On my Plunket sheet it says at 8 months they should have at least 600ml per day of milk - but nothing about 7 month olds so I am also interested too!

I had the same problem with Bailey, my plunket nurse said to give me formula when he want and just mix his solids with a bit of formula as well, worked for us so it might work for you

Alex rarely finishes his bottles so I have also been using his leftover milk for either baby cereal or custard. If he's going to drop a feed then I want to maximise what he has. I think I will also try solids before milk and see if that helps.

The ironic thing is that today he had all four feeds and drank most of them (he must have known!!)

Provided he is getting three or four servings of dairy a day (be it milk, yoghurt, cheese, cottage cheese etc) and is still drinking fluids of some description, I wouldn't worry too much. He's probably telling you that he is getting plenty of nutrients from his big boy solid food.
Andrew (now 13 months) has for the past month or four started his day with weetbix mixed with hot water to make it mushy and yoghurt, followed by a cup of milk formula and then has morning tea a bit later (fruit or a cracker or two) then has a sandwich and a slice of cheese for lunch with another drink (water or really diluted juice) then afternoon tea of yoghurt or crackers or fruit and then dinner. He occasionally will have a milk drink after dinner but is getting plently of calcium etc in the rest of his food. Have a look at the quantity of solids your little guy is eating, see if you can sneak some dairy into it and let him don't fret too much about what the tin says.
(oh, and son #1 weaned himself off breastmilk at 6 months and wouldn't take a bottle - just went straight onto solid foods...and he's 10 now and fine).

Oh - and remember that the guidelines on the tin are for formula as a meal, not a supplement. The 200mls four times a day is probably enough for if they aren't eating anything else with it.
