When did you take your baby swimming at a pool?
I was thinking about swimming lessons for Kaleb but then thought whatever they do for his age I could probably do myself but want to know if it would be safe to take him to a public pool?

most pools have a 6month cut off, mainly due to then swallowing the wat0er and not being able to regulate their temp
I took DD to lessions from about 6months and to be honest I won't bother with DS until he is about 18 months. I will take him to the pools, but as you thought Kathryn, there is nothing they learn that you can't show them yourself

It depends on the pool and who they have doing their lessons. I used to work at a pool that did swimsation and they won't take children younger than 6 months for lessons. I took Andrew swimming at 3 months and he started lessons at just over 2 and I took Josh swimming at 3 months as well and will look at swimming lessons for him in a few years.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

At our pool you can start the littlies after they turn 3 months. Noah started at around 5 months and he just loves it.
We sing songs with little actions and movement and do a little bit of going under the water stuff and other little games where he tries to reach all the toys (encouraging him to wade through the water using his arms), moving through the water encouraging him to kick his legs, flipping him from his front on to his back and then back again. He loves it.

jake used to love his lessons too. They are expensive though and in my opinion, don't teach them how to swim as such, but will give a timid child water confidence. my children have too much water confidence so i have decided to wait until they are both able to have lessons without me getting in, beofer forking out the cash. until then, we will just go tothe pools together.
