Topic: West Auckland Playgroup/Kindy? Posted: 06 June 2007 at 12:52pm |
We’re looking into taking Caitlin to a playgroup/kindy for one morning or afternoon a week so she gets to play with other kids etc.
I’m trying to find a good one that will not only provide a nice safe and happy place for her but also one were they concentrate on learning (not just a baby sitting service!).
I’ve been looking on the ERO website, but it’s all so confusing and a lot of the centres like to have them for at least 3 times a week (we just can't afford that and we would rather she stayed with My Mum whilst I'mat work).
Can any one in West Auckland recommend any centres?

I guess it depends whether you want a playgroup, where you stay with her the whole time, or more of a daycare type arrangement.
I know Lollipops Educare at Lynnmall do occasional care (where you drop them off) but their ERO is a shocker. I'll have a talk to Maya's preschool teacher when I pick her up this arvo and see what she recommends.

I have a friend who works at the care on Golf Road care centre, they are really educationally based (if that is such a word?) they have a sister centre on Kinross St.
I know Em maybe able to help you with the Lollipops in New Lynn.
I did a lo to research into day care when we first had Tyrell. We found Hillsborough care centres to be in pretty poor standard to what we wanted, their ERO feedback was the same as what we thought.

I personally wouldn't recommend Lollipops at Lynmall. We had Ethan there till early last year (when we moved). There is no real outdoor area (well it's next to the area where the smokers go....!!!) and the carpets are not cleaned regularly.... Ethn was ALWAYS sick when he was going there...The teachers there always seemed to be in bit of a frazzle iykwim..
I believe there is a private daycare/kindy near Freyberg Primary school. My SIL is an Early Childhod Teacher and relieved there for a while. She said that it had an excellent set up, teachers were fantastic and had a great learning schedule..

If it is for you to meet other Mums as well and stay with her try your local playcentres or sometimes churches have playgroups.
Kindy usually not till toilet trained.
Daycare could be an option

A friends little girl goes to the one by Rutherford school in Te Atatu Peninsula, that would be close to your work if needed?
Her little girl is 14 months old now, but started at about 12 months. She only goes one day a week.
Mum is a picky school teacher like me, so it must be good!

I want to go with her to start as she has never been left on her own before.
I don't want a day care place as I want her to stay with Mum when I'm at work, no where can give her that 1 on 1 and excellent relationship she has with her Nanny
I looked at Bear Park in Henderson which had an excellent ERO report and website etc, but they say that to benefit she should go 3 times a week or else each visit will be like the first (I don't agree as she goes Swimming once a week and certainly doesn't forget about that! lol)
I definitely don't want somewhere like Lollipops, t didn't seem very "baby focussed" or learning based, looked like they let the kids run riot which would be great for an older child but I think that kind of environment would scare her

Toni have you spoken to Bear Park? I have Gina booked in the one in Remuera for 2 days only a week starting in a couple of months and they never said anything to me. Maybe the 3 day thing is a suggestion only?

Bear Park in general have a brilliant reputation, one of the girls who did swimming with Maya went to the one in Remuera and her Mum raved about it too.

I spoke to one of tbe Centre Managers this morning and that was his recommendation. They used to do casuals on 2 mornings/afternoons but found it was in the child's best interest to go more often.
I really liked Bear Park, but I don't want her there that often

I have a good friend who is the "chef" at Bear Park Henderson.
If you need any help there let me know and I can talk to her. Her son has just gone from 3 mornings to full time.

That would be great Amy, thanks
It does seem the best one around and it's close to Mum so if we can't get in on a Friday morning she could go with her Nanny instead.

Dunno?!?!
I'm after somewhere with a bit of structure rather than a playground (I'm assuming that's what Play Centre is?)

Most playgroups and playcentres are well priced, and you can go once a week if you want to. They have lots of different activities for them incl playdough, outdoor toys, water play, craft, musical instruments etc etc.. we started going when Ella was about one.
Is this what you were after?
