Depends on which appliances you have use gas. We have a 6 burner gas stove and I use a 9kg (BBQ size) bottle once every 3 months. If it's water heating etc you'll need to get 2 of the big bottles that the gas companies deliver etc. Cant help with that price tho as we're installing gas water heating in the next few months and will have to find out as well! Give your locals a call and I'm sure they'll be more than happy to point you in the right direction! Apparently they bring them and you use it and they come back and weigh and charge for it .
From my research, it's about $70 a bottle. Depending on what the gas is used for, one bottle can last around 3 months. We are installing a gas hot water system next year, and running it off the bottles, and it was going to be basically $70 every 3 months or so, plus the $35 annual fee for hirage of the bottles (so the company who owns them just comes and exchanges the empty one for a full one - you don't actually keep the bottles as such). This is the cost in Taranaki though, not sure about ChCh but I wouldn't think it would be too much different? The cost to fill the bottle depends on the LPG cost at the time (fluctuates like petrol, but nowhere near as much from what I can tell).
we have 45kg bottles and it costs about $100 per bottle (just gone up). I am still working out how long they last as until this one it has been about a month per bottle (cooking and hot water). But this time we have gone nearly 2 months and I dont know why as I am using a lot of water at the moment with all my baths. I am worried that we are running both bottles down or something. Oh well as long as it doesnt happen in the next few days.
