Topic: Chicken Pox Posted: 23 February 2007 at 2:14pm |
Who here has had a child go through chicken pox? What were the symptoms before the spots?
My friend's little boy has caught them, we saw them last week and the spots came out that afternoon they are contagious then, so I'm just playing the waiting game now, wondering if Ella will get them. If she does, she won't be contagious until early next week. She has just come down with a cold, so I'm wondering if that's the start of it? I looked up online and it said that "cold like symptoms" were common

cold like symptoms are the most common sign of chicken pox, not normally a bad cold just a bit of a runny nose ect, then that will normally be gone when the spots come out, which is usually 7-14 days after they have been in contact with the bugs.
if you think its on its way i would go and get some calamine(sp?) lotion and be prepared for a few days at home. It can be contagioius from the first symptoms, so the cold untill the last of the spots dry out, which is why it seems to go around in little outbreaks as the contagious period is so long..
hope this helps...

Hope you feel better soon Ella

Oh poor Ella, hope she doesn't get them too bad.
Lots of calamine lotion for the itching.

Thanks, I actually managed to get her to sleep for the first time in a week.
The new thing these days is "Mebo - anti itch" so I bought some of that.
Nikki, I was thinking we should have a sewing night soon~!
