Topic: Changing Routines When Travelling Posted: 13 March 2007 at 2:17pm |
Hi all,
We are taking Olivier on his first overseas trip to Brisbane next week yay . My question is for those that have taken their babies overseas have you changed their sleeping/eating routines etc or have you tried to keep it the same? Brisbane is only 3 hours behind so it's not too bad but I am scared that if I change Ollie's routine too much that his sleeping pattern may change and he may wake up a couple of times during the night. What do you think I should do?

I didn't worry about it too much when we went to Sydney, fortunately our flight was in the morning, and just about the right length of time for spacing in between bottles as well. When we got there we just went ahead as if nothing had changed, and she settled after a day or so right into her normal routine (although we were still doing a 10pm feed).

I've been to Oz and back with the gremlins twice now and haven't had too many issues with routine. I guess the thing is to be prepared for a shocker of a day on the way over with all the time spent waiting around the airport, getting to the plane, then the actual flight etc. I've found my girls are usually so shattered when we arrive that they crash out and have a good sleep.
We usually fly so we arrive in the early evening, that way when we get there I can basically just bath and feed them and put them straight to bed. The first night in Sydney they woke around 5am for a feed then went back down till around 8am and by day 2 they were back to their normal routine.
Coming back they must have been really exhausted coz they went down at 7pm, had a dream feed at 11pm and slept till well after 8am!

I head over to Uk next month and am worried the same with them being 12 hours behind but I guess we'll sort it out.
Going to Aussie didn't seem to both my other two either as its not too much of a time difference.

We didn't have any issues when we went to Brisbane. We had issues the other way coming home. Our flight didn't arrive in NZ until 1am an hour late. Andrew spent most of the night awake while we wanted to sleep.
