OK, so I have been on the waiting list for my boob op (reduction as I have bad assymetry) since 2004. In 2006 I went in to have it done, was all drawn up and on the bed and then there was an emergency so I got bumped. They rescheduled for late 2006 but I was getting married early 2007 and I wouldn't have been able to go on honeymoon, so they said sweet we'll give it a few months. Lo and behold I got pg and was called up twice during the pregnancy to have the op (to which I said, um yeah don't think I'm in the right place to do it at the moment! lol). The lady I spoke to said to let them know when I had given birth and I'd get it done soon after.

So... I emailed them the other day to let them know (and I'm not breastfeeding as the pain is so bad because of my boob issues) and the lady said I might not get it done for another couple of years because I only went on the waiting list in 2006! So clearly they took me off when I went in to have the op, then placed me back on and never made a note about the fact I'd already been waiting 2 years! Grrr! I emailed back with some not so nice words about being really disappointed if they'd bumped me right down etc etc. If I had 7k to pay for it myself I would have had it done about 6 years ago when I first went for a consult.

So unless they sort it out, it looks like I'll be waiting a total of about 6 years for this blimmin op! Anyway, pity party over!

I feel for you, being a worker in the public health system. And unfortunately, you are not alone. The other day we had a girl who had been waiting for 10 years to have something done!!!! Perhaps ringing and talking to the right person, might get you further than 'back and forth' with the email...? I know administration has a lot to answer for when it comes to surgery delays...

That's awful emz, and MissAngel! Also makes me very grateful that my parents took out comprehensive health insurance when I was a kid and have kept it up coz it meant my kids didn't have to wait 18 mths to get grommets and I didn't have to wait God knows how long to have my bladder surgeries.

Ye p I agree with ShellandBella, ring and talk to the secretary to the surgeon or the surgeon himself, the switchboard at the hospital will put you through. I make all my patients who have been let down re surgery do that, it seems that the squeaky wheel gets the oil. good luck both of you

LOL BS, yep, I rang Southern Cross and registered the gremlins before we'd even left Birthcare!

Yeah I do have med insurance (I have so many issues I wouldn't be without it) and have it for Jack too, but breast reductions aren't covered under Unimed Which we didn't know until I'd already been to see the surgeon, and now it's classed as pre-existing. May ring tomorrow, it's really annoying me now as it was their fault (OK, yep they had a patient with complications but you know) in the first place that I didn't get it done! They said initially that I could get it done ASAP after Jack was born.

Oh Emz that really sucks. I hope you can get in touch with someone tomorrow and get back on that list and high up it.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

Grrr! That totally sucks! You poor thing.

It really seems like any excuse really to get people off lists - definitely make a lot of noise. Last time I checked (about 6 months ago) it was around 12k for a reduction too. (not that I did very comprehensive research admittedly)
